Is the grand campaign playable i.e. winnable without using captured equipment? 3/5 of my core thanks are non German models. Half my fighters are British. Feel like too much.

SCW is hardest one so far to do without captured equipment, german tanks and recon are very inferior to the russian equipment you gt gifted some spanish gear which is good but some of it it is scripted as having being captured so if you are being strict you are in for a tough time at anything above default difficulty.
1939 and 1940 are very doable only thing you a are missing is heavy tank like char b or mitilda II

I don't remember having that high a percentage when I played through the original campaign. In the DLCs it has swung backwards and forwards. I had a lot of captured equipment in Spain but much of that was retired in '39 when I got access to better tanks and artillery. I think at the end of '40 I have one set of spitfires but I am mostly using german equipment.

I have played each AO with default Cores successfully.
So Yes it is possible to play without captured equipment.
At the higher difficultly levels you do need the captures for prestige, but not necessarily for the equipment it's self.
In AO-SCW captured equipment is often much better, so it would be the hardest to play without captured equipment.
In SCW I did use 'captured' equipment from Commendation points.
All others I have played without any 'captures'.

Out of all the AARs I did so far with very different special rules there was one where I used no non-German units, be it captured or gift ones and it went just fine, even with Retrograde enabled. Like people before, I can confirm SCW is the DLC in which using captured equipment makes the largest difference due to the very low power level of your own machines, but later it's purely optional. German units are as good as allied ones and you won't have to worry about parts. But that's the part of the game I enjoy the most, there are some many ways to approach it that despite being 4 AAR's deep in the SCW campaigns I still am open to new potential challenges with different types of traits and units and still not bored of it even slightly.

I don't use captured equipment at all in the 36 or 39 DLCs, unless you count the Verdeja. Did take some odds and ends in 40, love having a Matilda. I find I am using significantly less captured units in PC2 as compared to PC1. At some points in GC42 I would guess almost half my tanks were either Russian or French.

I have never used the Matilda tank because it's too slow and its soft and hard attack too low. Same problem with speed (along with the high slot cost) with the KV-2 that you get at the end of AO39. If you don't have the right traits/heroes it can be difficult in SCW. I have but it also affects you in other ways like some have already mentioned. I am not a huge fan of using captured equipment (outside of SCW) but it an vital part of your income if you don't on higher difficulty levels. So a lot of it depends on what Heroes you have been getting. If you have the fortune of receiving Zero/reduced slot heroes, well, then units like the Il-2 and KV-2 are no-brainers along with Master of Blitzkrieg. In other games where I have not...I notice I haven't used them.
My current core played through SCW without a single Zero/reduced slot hero and as a result I never used my big Russian 203mm gun. It was just too slot heavy without one of those heroes. I used just my 10.5 cm German guns only for the entire SCW!

I never use captured equipment. When you get the fockewulf 190 and panzer 4 f2 you have the best fighters and tanks from there on.

i dont play with too much captured, i had some t 26 and bt 5 tanks in scw, when i am using captured equipment im using it for flavor like ive seen message telling me that Galland would like to fly in spitfire so i put him in some captured spitfires, also i like that kv 2 flex in AO1940 plus that m203 howitzer still in my core.

Can be hard, but still possible. Mostly the SCW and 1939 campaign, as your equipments (mainly armoured vehicles) are more or less inferior to your enemies, so you will have a hard time if play without using captured equipments in frontal open engagements.
