Byzantines in FoGII

I was wondering why the Byzantines are so weak in FoGII? They even lose most of the battles they won Historicly in this game and they couldn't have been this bad to survive for 1000 years after the fall of Rome. I think they should be upgraded at least a little. Could you take a poll and see if other players think the same? I really think they should be better then they are in the game!

thank you! Steve H. Carney (Okie)

My experience with the Byzantines is they are a fairly good army against historical opponents. At the same time, I think they are a complicated army and not easy to play. I think it takes time to learn how to use that army to its full capability. Until then, it can be pretty brutal playing them.

i agree okie! i'm playing them in the EMA!
Actually i think that they need different tactics as the previous post says. the main army 50% bow / spear which means they loose in either department if you only use that. Think that you need to use the most of the archery before engaging, although that seems quite tricky against an advancing enemy. The Vagarian unit is great, but a bit overpriced i think - learning that the hard way.

Update. The Byzantines are really bad. The 50% bow swordsmen means they are the worst of both worlds. You can only use the bows for 2 turns max and then when they contact they consistently lose. The cavalry promise much, but rarely deliver. Are we sure the pricing is right!?!
