Start with 1940 DLC?

I've played through all the campaign "tracks" in PC 2...really did enjoy all the scenarios and campaigns.
Now considering the DLC's. The SCW and 1939 DLC give me pause.
Watched a ton of videos of the SCW...don't like the Ai controlling part of my forces throughout the campaign...IMHO just a "gimmick" by the devs...may skip.
I have some familiarity with 1939 DLC...but don't like the idea of not taking out all the AI units in first scenario...gimmick again...IMHO...other "gimmicks" introduced in other scenarios in the DLC?
From a limited perspective of the 1940 DLC...seems like the "gimmicks" are removed and this DLC returns the stock PC2 experience.
If I want the PC2 experience...skip the first 2 DLC's and just start with AO 1940?
PS-"gimmicks" just me that certain aspects are not my cup of tea...don't mean to imply bad design or others can enjoy those aspects.

id start with 39, don't write of whole chapter because of first map which is short enough, there is one one map you may find 'gimmicky' but its optional just just skip it .

I do like SCW. The "trick" is to learn how to control "your" infantry effectively. You do have some control. The main problem that some players have is that they don't figure out how to take advantage of it and/or don't support them with air and artillery. They can be pretty effective most of the time, but only if you give them some help. Then you can just sit on the space bar and it will accelerate their turn and it actually helps you play the entire DLC faster.
Other reason to start with SCW: Adolf Galland. The one you get here is better than the one you get in later DLCs. This one has +Attack and +Initiative that the later ones do not.
It is one of the more challenging DLCs nonetheless, so if you still chose to skip it I would begin then with AO40. I am not much of a fan of the first scenario either, but once you figure it out it isn't that long or hard. There is one more such scenario but it isn't that hard either. Yes, you lose the chance to earn CD points that get you in the following scenario a free Somua S35 tank.

For the SCW...I think I read a while back some sort of mod that would allow you to control your own infantry...correct?
If so...had any experience with the mod?

It works fairly well, certain scenarios your 'AI allies' are still AI controlled, but not most.

I hated my first play through with SCW and immediately used the No Spanish AI Mod. Then I played it a second time (without the mod) and found a real appreciation for the strategy involved. You should definitely start with SCW because it is a unique gameplay experience.
As for the AO39 first mission... I'm surprised it's received so much resistance. The whole purpose of the mission (IMO) is to teach players about encirclement strategy, especially when dealing with major river tiles. I personally enjoyed it and learned some new strategy from it.
If you start with SCW, you will become a better player when compared to an AO40 start.

Definitely start with this mod. I likes SCW, but then with this mod, my enjoyment went through the roof. Until we get AI that actually works well, and uses common sense, I am weary of units and forces I cannot control. I wish there was a mod for 1940, to control the ghost Division...
