Hello all,
in some quick battles, in the army there is a single light archer unit skirmishing on the front, and no other ranged units. My question is, what is the point of them, if they will never do enough damage alone to trigger a cohesion test?
My use is to do some damage and try to pull some enemies out of position, but why would the enemy follow them?

Agreed, you are unlikely to be able to get very much use out of it in those circumstances.

Here are some situations in which they're useful:

- The archers sit right in front of a unit, so either the unit needs to path around, which can throw off their formation, or they charge the archers, potentially causing them to pursue into an awkward position.

- The archers occupy rough ground.......any heavy infantry or cavalry charging them will be at a disadvantage on impact and thus might not want to charge, potentially protecting your flank.

- The archers occupy some forest or marsh.......heavy infantry and cavalry really don't want to face them in that terrain. Additionally, archers can freely charge heavy infantry or cavalry in forests and marsh, locking down the more expensive unit in a frustrating fight.

- With their 3 space movement, the archer can scout out the enemy and withdraw from infantry fairly easily.

- Repeated shots on the same unit can get it below the size threshold allowing your own unit to have a melee advantage.

i like to use them as human ditches.

Ok I managed to use them with the zoc and disturb everyone. They did a good job actually, on a rough hill the enemy spearmen being forced to go all the way around to meet my army.
They routed only after the enemy light archer got sick of them and charged xD
