Model number of men

What is it determines the number of men in a model ?

The manual says some scenarios and campaigns use a different representative level, however am playing an HvH game (so not a scenario or a campaign ?) against the Mongols and the men per model is 4x what it is in all my other games. Kind of confusing as I have a few games going and get used to how many shooting casualties it takes to cause a cohesion test and then it is different from game to game.

Maybe not a bad thing though if you are taking on the Mongols and 4x as many guys turn up !

The army lists have scaling factors for each army list, depending on the usual size of forces each army tended to field.

These are used in Custom Battles. When two armies with different scaling factors fight, the average is used for both side.

The historically based campaigns and Epic Battles have scripted scaling factors.

Sandbox campaign currently use the basic unit scale because it could be problematic to vary the scaling factor from battle to battlewhen fighting various different opponents.

I appreciate that this could be a potential source of confusion, but we think it is better than some of the feudal states fielding historically impossibly large forces.

Because the game is primarily morale-based rather than casualty-based, the detailed observation of casualties is far less important than in most games.

Could it be possible to add the option to be able to change that scaling from the selection menu at the start of the battle?

Personally sometimes these battles seem too small in number of troops, especially in FOG ancients; with armies numbering in 15K at average even in the bigger battle sizes, quite a farcry from the described in historic battles. I know this isnt so much of a problem for Medieval, as battles were smaller in this time period, but still; it could add a new face to battles, and depending what you are trying to represent, make them a lot more inmersive; atleast for me.

Cool! Thank you very much for considering. I actually thought of this possibility back when FoG2 was initially released, nevertheless, I never got to post a suggestion about it. Definitively a mistake from my part
