More chat options?

In the game, the chat option in a multi-player game is possible only when you finish your turn. Then you can write/chat to the person you're playing with. I know many people don't really like to talk to their opponent, but there are quite a few who do, and it's a bit hard when you can only write something at the end of your turn. I myself often want to respond often but by the time my turn ends I forget and too quickly end the turn without replying or saying what I wanted to say. Ideally it would be nice to send messages at any time during your turn, or even when it's the opponents turn. But at a simpler form, it would be nice to at least send messages at the beginning AND end of your turn.

I know some people would say just get on another app and chat that way, but some apps don't work well for people in other countries and/or they don't want to have a bunch of different apps on their computer. At any rate, I'm just bringing this up to see if it would be easy to add more options to in-game talk to opponents.^^

Agree: would be great to have the opportunity to write messages in-game during one's turn, and then they may be sent at the end of the turn, along with the orders (much like now, but with the option to write them not only at the end of the turn).

I don't think the way the game is set up it would be easy to include chat during turns. Before you start your turn could be doable.

I think an ingame chat/memo would be an excellent addition. It could be used for commenting on moves for teaching purposes. Don't see why it would be that hard to insert a chat event into the string of orders currently issued.

Could both players hook up on something like Skype and play and chat, literally.

Yes but many players are on different time zones.

You can arrange times to play. Can't you still play on Skype and make comments. Are these comments recorded so when your opponent plays, he can hear what you said during your turn. Also I believe Snugglebunnies, records a lot of his games on youtube

Can't really arrange times to play often if you're 12 hours difference like I am. You're also not going to have everyone you play jump on an app just to talk a bit more with you. I'm just looking for a bit more than what you can do now; it doesn't have to be on the scale of discord or skype. Karvon said above it wouldn't be hard to implement a chat/memo. I just think in-game having a bit more of a chat feature would be good/useful if it's not hard to implement.

This is a feature wish/request aimed at developers to implement. Which I'm personally in support of. Players who don't want to use that feature don't need to.

The problem arises (as very often, most likely in this case too) if there are scarce development resources and prioritisations must be made.

So maybe this thread should be moved elsewhere, to developers' attention?

Agreed. Also wouldn't it be good to have a "doubles" game. 2 players each side, moving alternative turns.

I suggest you post that as a separate request then.
(Question is where to post these types of requests, Pip?)

Posting to general chat is more likely to get eyes on it, though myself and RBS are likely to spot most posts. You are correct that this feature, being a subset of MP that many people would not use, isn't likely to get a ton of development time applied to it (vs other improvements that impact every player), but it's something that we have discussed from time to time across many games.

Cheers
