Looking for FOG players in Bristol, UK

Hi all,

As the title says i'm looking for players and/or a gaming group in the Bristol area.....

A little background on myself - I have played WRG 7th edition with my dad and uncle for quite some time (over 15 years) though I'm not entirely convinced we ever actually got the rules totally right.....way over complicated if you ask me and we never liked the look of DBM or its succesors. Haven't really played in a few years and would like to get back into it now (am trying to gee my dad up to get back into it as well)

Having heard of a new ruleset that had links with slitherine (legion, CoW and Spartan all great games) I convinced myself to buy a copy of FOG (along with 2 army list books) and really like what I see...for the most part the rules seem strait forward and I like the various mechanics that at 1st glance seem over simple but in reality combine to produce the sort of results I'd expect. So I'm not a complete wargaming novice but wouldn't mind a little help learning the new rules (and tactics!)

All the armies I own/have access to are 15mm and currently based as per 7th edition rules (Another thing I like about FOG...no real need to rebase everything or indeed anything..though I'll need to make some nice camps!) and include

Mid Repuplic Roman, Early and later Seleucid, Later Carthaginian, Ancient Spanish, Syracusian, Samnite, Etruscan, Pyrrhic, Spartacus Slave revolt, Later Jewish and Assyrian. I'm sure I've missed a few and of course other armies can be made up using the units from others.

I look forward to (hopefully) hearing from some local opponants soon

Mike,

Have you triedthe Lincombe Barn and Iron Acton groups? That said, I've heard they don't play FOG but you might try.

Failing that we play South of Gloucester. Our usual meet is on a Monday at the Tudor Arms in Slimbedge, Glos, from 7.30 until kicking out time.

We do other stuff too and are not due a FOG game for a couple of weeks having sated our desire with a recent local tournament.

If you get no joy locally and don't mind a bit of extra travel we'll happily help you out with games. Let me know.

Thanks Steve,

I kinda discounted Lincombe Barn as I did go to a few meets quite a few years ago and found them to be not as friendly as I'd hoped (it was that experience that put me off of clubs at the time) but might be worth another look now as was a long time ago and im sure a lot can change

I never knew there was an Iron Acton group.....that could be handy as I live about 5 mins walk away from there! Will have a look into that

As for the offer to goto south glos...well I might take you up on that 1 day anyway, its good to expand your experiences and i wouldn't mind getting into the comp circuit one day so practice makes perfect!

hi Mike

We are a FoG group that plays in 15mm and 25mm based around Yeovil, so about 30 miles from Bristol. You would be welcome to come down to meetings and I will send you details if you pm me. I and other members are also happy to travel to play as there are plenty of SW players of FoG but they are geographically widespread! People come over to Yeovil from Salisbury, Weymouth, Exmouth, Bridport, Bruton, Wells etc!

Hi Mike,

We have a Wargames club in Clevedon, we meet on Friday nights from 7.30pm at the 2nd Clevedon Scouts HQ, we all play FoG as well as other periods. We have a number of members who live in Bristol, if you'd like to know more just let me know.

After looking into both Licoln barn and Iron acton groups ot would appear neither play FOG...shame but obviously not too useful for me!

Hi Martin - Yeovil like Glos isn't too bad for me and I expect in the not too distant future I'll be in touch about that offer due to my earlier statement on widening my horizons and finding as many players as possible!

Hi Andy - Clevedon really is a lot closer and more than possible to get to easily :D So I would definately like to know more....i'll have to dust off the ole figures now, make nessassary repairs, make a few purchases to get the armies up to date and start looking at ideas for camps

Regards

Mike
