Medium Foot unable to turn

The first picture shows my MF with 10 AP's left. He moves 1 square forward expending 4 AP's. In the second picture he has 6 AP's left but is unable to change facing diagonally to his right. He was also unable to make a single move to that position before moving only being allowed to move 2 squares directly to his front. Why is that?

I struggle to read the text in these tiny screenshots. If you are reducing the size of the screenshots to make the files smaller, it would be better to reduce the fidelity instead, so they remain at full size. The loss of clarity down to 60% fidelity or so is hardly noticeable, and the larger screenshots are much easier to view on the forum.
Assuming you made a save of the situation, what does the tooltip on the "can't turn" icon say if you mouse over it?
All of what you describe would be the case if your unit had made a "free" 45 degree turn before the first screenshot.
It is "free" only in the sense of not costing any AP. It does have effects on the cost of subsequent turns: A second 45 degree turn would cost 8 AP. And the unit would not be able to make a "knight's move", but only go straight forward 1 or 2 squares.

OK thanks. I must have made a turn earlier in the game.
