Mounted Huscarls

Hey all,

I'm wondering if I can get an opinion:

In Wolves from the Sea p45. the Huscarls have the option of being Heavy foot Offensive Spear or Heavy Foot Heavy Weapon.

They further have the option of being upgraded to Cavalry.

Now, if I take the option of upgrading two of the BG's to Cavalry leaving one BG of Heavy Weapons (after 900AD of course) can I still give the Cavalry 'supporting archers'.

I know they are unlikely to DO anything (except increase the size of the BG), but I'm thinking that my mounted Huscarls are likely to do a LOT of dismounting, and would like the supporting archers for the times when they dismount.

I'm not trying to be cheesy. I don't see anything wrong within the rules, and I can even see that it doesn't really change anything (except the mixed mounted/foot formation would not make formation changes as cavalry, because they aren't cavalry they are mixed so would be 'other').

Interested in peoples thoughts.

The table shows you can only get those LF Bow with Heavy Foot Huscarls as 1/3 (or zero).

No, it says:

Supporting Archers | Light Foot | Unprotected | Superior | Undrilled | Bow | - | 6 | 1/3 or 0 | 0-9

It doesn't mention that they have to support purely foot Huscarls.

You take the Foot Huscarls as:
Huscarls | Heavy Foot | Armoured | Superior | Undrilled | - | Offensive Spearmen | 12 | 6
with
Supporting Archers | Light Foot | Unprotected | Superior | Undrilled | Bow | - | 6 | 3

and then:

Upgrade Huscarls to | Cavalry | Armoured | Superior | Undrilled | - | Light Spear, Swordsmen | 16 | 6

So the Supporting archers I presume are still there!

Presume away, but that's not the way the lists are set up when you can upgrade the rear ranks as well. You might check the back of the book, or just play it that way until someone minds.

this kind of reading is what the authors have discouraged people from trying pervert the rules into doing.

Sorry i don't mean that rudely, but more IMO.
