Biblical preference?

Having looked over Swifter than Beagles, I am thinking of making a 15mm biblical army. I've narrowed it down to Hittites or Mitanni. Any preferences? It would be easier for me to make a line of Mitanni, fewer troop types! :) But Hittites are IMO more interesting. Thoughts?

Have you got the full list?

We have "Softer than Beagles", "Oafs of frailty" any more?

Are you planning to manufacture the army or play it?

OK - so far we have:

[Rise of Rome]
Swarm of Sparrows
Immoral Fibre
[Swords and Scimitars]
Leg Irons and Trumpets
[Eternal Empire]
[Wolves from the Sea]
Softer than Beagles
Oafs of Frailty

Anybody care to fill in the bracketed ones?

Oafs of Futility I think you'll find and, maybe, Lies of Rome would be somehow appropriate.

After highjacking the topic I'd better actually answer it.

Mitanni could be a good choice as I can only recall other manufacturers recycling figures from other ranges for use as tham - however, do we know anything really distinctive about them to actually make a range that isn't just generic? If the answer is no then Hittites it is then.

Of the two, I'd definitely make Mitanni. Lots of manufacturers make the Assyrian/Egyptian/Hittite reanges so if you go there you'll be one of many.

One problem with making a range of Hitittes is that the rather specific shields mean they don't morph well either, whereas the Mitanni might be more generic.

I was in favor on Mitanni.

But I think there may be something Median or Uratu as well. Maybe not distinctive enough.

My biblical preference is for the New Living Translation, but most people go with the NIV.

Lies of Rome is good, though I think I prefer Rise of Womb.

Mitanni is interestingly obscure, though I should point out that Gladiator or Lancashire (for some reason I always get them mixed up) makes Mitanni, so it's not like they have gone unmade.

Which army is better, Hittite or Mitanni? I'd think Hittite because of more troop types available.

The only Hittite ally is Mitanni. Mitanni has 3 allies, but the only value-add is Hittites.

I like the Light Spear Swordsmen with second rank bow on the Mitanni list, and prefer LCH in the main army, not as an ally, so I think Mitanni with a Hittite ally looks good. 4-8 HCh and up to 12 MF Def Spearmen are both possible value adds from the Hittites and the sort of troops that can be grouped with an allied TC for a specific mission. (Hittites would take Mitanni vassals only for the LCh and maybe a cheap LF BG.) In addition, the Mitanni levies give numerous options for cheap poor BGs to bulk out the army, including LF BGs or Mobs of 6-8 bases with Light Spear - quite a deal - at 30-40 figures per Mob BG a lot of lead for the cheap BGs.

Hittites have those, don't they? Both Anatolians and Syrians LCh.

Don't the Syrians/Caananites do the same thing for the Hittites?

These are MF bow behind MF Light Spear, Swordsmen - a good combo.

Light Chariots and Heavy Chariots are in the Hittite list, the Mitanni Have oodles of Light Chariots and can get Hittite heavy ones through an ally.

Yup.
