Slitherine

I think I know the answer to this question, but can't find it anywhere. Two of my friends and I have the game, and were trying to get a cooperative game going. We were only able to play a FFA but obviously not all on the same team. Is 3 player, cooperative gameplay possible or no? It seems like an odd thing when you can have 6 or 8 or whatever people all in the same game, and teams of 2 or 4, but not 3.... Thanks.
