Commander traits AND range

I'm sorry for the probable stupid question, but how Range works with commanders? I suppose they'd give their bonuses to friendly units within range... But I do not notice. Does it work at all??

A regular and a "Hero" unit has different stats, the comparison shows. When moving a regular unit into the effect area of the hero unit, nothing changes. Combat prognosis shows the same values... Am I missing something?

And an even more crazy question... is there no way to have a unit both as Land AND Naval commander at the same time? So after removed from ship could be assigned to a land unit

I've tested it once some while ago and, yes, it did work. I know that the commanders do not update the stats in the UI of the affected units (only the one it's attached to).

But their effect DOES work on friendly units within "range" and the combat preview does update (at least I've noticed it with planes and ships) - just don't kid yourself, the best you can hope for is an increase of "2+" to "3", for example.

For the test I've chosen some commander with a trait that can be observed after every combat event, like shock or assault.

I have another question on the subject: what happens when two commanders' auras overlap? I'm doing some test and I can't understand how the game decides which ones give the bonus to which unit in range: it seems random and not even determined by distance from commander...
