I bought this game recently but so far have found it pretty frustrating. Bad things seem to happen when I collect "aging tokens", but these tokens are not found in the manual. At all. Not helpful.

In my current game I got my first "aging token" (whatever it is) on Turn 1, and had my second by Turn 3.

It is tied to the whole process of progress and decadence, which is at the core of the game. There is a chapter on it in the game manual. Also, you can click on the [?] button in many panels of the game to get more insight on how to play. Here is an example of the sections only for the Nation Panel, but you can get more in other panels!

You have to search the manual for "ageing", which is the British spelling.

Thanks. But still is only one mention of "ageing tokens" in the manual, and four of "ageing". All of them generally describe the effect of ageing, but no details...

This is the only mention of "ageing tokens":
"All states will experience a civil war when they have 5 negative ageing tokens and are already decadent or if the resulting change of government type will make you drop a civilisation level (7.3)."

Search for "decadence" which causes ageing....
