Our esteemed commander and his biographer says we'll be ready as soon as we can find the other three in our team....they seem to be off with a shady lady called Snow.

Selam!

Battle of Mohacs Me vs PanCalvus ended with Ottoman victory 40% - 66%

Büyük Sultan,
may this letter find you in good health for it also brings fortunate news. The false-king of Hungary, that Jagiellonian dog Ludwik is dead. We found his body in a ditch near Mohacs, abandoned by his retinue. His head will be brought along with this letter. I also report we counted over 2000 bodies of Hungarian soldiers lying around the battlefield.
Our spies inform us that the enemy managed to recover another 2000 wounded, of which almost half have perished within a day.
Additionally, I would like to inform you that our brave soldiers managed to capture over 4000 enemy soldiers. According to your order, 2000 of them were executed. The remaining captives will be divided fairly between you and the Crimean Khan Saadet Giray (blessed be his name) We also estimate that at least another 1500 men have deserted the Hungarian army.

Your humble servant,

Khan Temir

P.S. I hope I didn't overdo it. BTW, the battle has been tough. PanCalvus was already entering the Ottoman camp from (our) right flank. The battle could have last longer if not for one unlucky impact role followed by an even more unlucky cohesion role of one of his last Kelis.

Did you think John Snow perhaps?

BTY recent pictures from Hungarian secret service spies at the Battle of the village of Mohács match an artist's sketch from our Hungarian militia outstanding cases file. Please return the missing bloomers recently left at Snow's place. Otherwise, it is a clear provocation and will result in the other six Hungarian dwarves descending on Mohács with all their livid brothers and cousins to reclaim them in the name of King Louis II of Hungary. We even hear a slightly infirm and dismembered Matthias Corvinus is so livid he's reconsidering reforming the disbanded Black Army.

I want to make a pun about foot stools but I'm biting my tongue really hard not to upset the great Khan and his furniture franchisee holders. :D

Yes, good that you join in. I think that GentlemanRanker wanted to drop out due to pc problems so you could play Snooky51, if he is willing.

Our game is getting down to the end, I think GentlemanRanker might be able to finish.

OK, that's good. Kerry can take over for Round Two then and maybe someone will play a friendly with him?

Miracle proclaimed at Mohacs!

GentlemanRanker’s Hungarians repulsed the Ottoman horde of snooky51, 49 – 61.

Both sides started carefully; the Hungarians withdrew out of artillery range and dressed their line, interspersing pike blocks and gendarmes, trying to keep the vulnerable infantry in close support behind. Snooky51 brought up the superior Ottoman janissaries and sipahis to bolster his attack, before advancing to contact. The Ottomans then forced a Hungarian advance by moving the artillery forward and attacking with their light horse.

The Hungarians tried to maintain their line by advancing the infantry to fire, then moving the pikes and lancers forward in an attempt to protect them from being charged. Inevitably after the several moves this formation was broken up, the Ottomans were able to penetrate the line, and the game descended into one large chaotic melee. With constant galling cannon fire, musketry from the janissaries, and fearless attacks from the sipahis, the Hungarian centre completely collapsed, and several pike blocks and units of lancers were routed. However, the Hungarians fared better on the wings, where the cavalry support managed to protect much of the infantry, the firepower of which began to tell in the later stages, auto-breaking several superior Ottoman units. In the end the game hinged upon luck, with the Hungarians having several fortuitous pursuits into Ottoman flanks. Thanks to snooky51 for a most enjoyable game.

[Alas, my ancient computer has become most unreliable, so I think it better to withdraw from multiplayer commitments until it can be replaced. The battle of Mohacs was a great choice to kick off this tournament, and I shall be sorry to miss out on the fun to come. I shall follow the progress of subsequent rounds with great interest, play the matchups as hotseat games, and look forward to SnuggleBunnies’ videos to show me how it should be done. ]

Gentleman Ranker,

well played. You have done well....much better than I am doing against Gribol.

Please reconsider you decision to pull out, you have ended this battle in good time. Do you plan to replace your computer soon? Because if you do it is possible to start the next battle in a couple of weeks time on the old one and complete it on the new one. Existing battles transfer from one computer to the next.

Yeah... no... I was doing a whole lot of not paying attention, and got confused thinking various non-Light units are Lights due to the graphics used, instead of actually reading the unit descriptions. That, combined with forgetting about the Ottoman reinforcements, has helped Sedo give me a pretty bloody nose so far, without even using his infantry.

Yep, I know that feeliing. In my practice battle against Kiwiwarlord I did exactly the same while playing Hungarians. The "Heavy Hussars" look exactly like light cav. It's confusing as hell

Thanks for your very informative game report Flynnn5555, and Well Done ! sneaking in with a couple of points to spare !
KiwiWarlord, Ottoman Team Leader

Battle result for mohacs:

Ottomans 58%
Hungarians 62%
result Ottoman win turn 15

Sorry if i have posted this in the wrong place but i really don't know what i am doing with these message boards.

Finds as follows:

Starting the game:
I had no idea how to start the game, i did not know where to find the game or what the settings needed to be, found it really hard as i have never played in a digital league before. After setting up the first game wrong my opponent and SnuggleBunnies help me out, thank you.

The Battle:
KiwiWarlord's advice was really helpful... I have not played Shot and Pike for about 12 months and always played the English civil war against the computer. I play FOG2 a lot against players.

In the opening turn the Hungarian Knights were out of range but in the first few turns i managed to disrupt and Fragment a few Heavy Knights and finally routed one with just cannon fire. I had no understanding of power of the Turk light cav... But i started to shoot a lot and managed to disrupt the Hungarian forces as they came on, I was up 20% to nothing. But I over extended my force on the right and got flanked routing 3 or 4 of my units... not so good. Finally the right flank force arrived and i got in behind the Hungarian cav who were overextended because i had led them into an ambush. My right crushed the Hungarian cav swiftly then turned on the remaining Hungarian infantry on the right, flanking from all sides... I should have pushed my inf up on the right, but i thought it would give the ambush away..

The Hungarians advanced steadily on my left and centre, finally over running my cannon and my right flank in the woods, it was a desperate battle as I deployed the turk infantry to slow them down... I needed to by time for the right flank cav to come in... it was touch and go, units mixed in fighting in all directions... the day was saved at the 11th hour with a crushing cav assault from the rear breaking a Kiel and some Hungarian cav.

Take Aways:
Light cav: had no idea how swift and mobile they were, fire power combined very effectively, but in combat and flank charges they were almost useless unless the enemy were fragmented

Medium/heavy cav: got confused with how far they could travel before they could not turn any more, this cost me

Inf: range, totally confused, archers, muskets, i really did not know, should have use more of the tools on the top bar

Shooting: I was surprised at how well the Turks were able to disorder the Hungarians with just fire power... very impressive

Dont know if any of this helps you out, let me know, any thoughts would be welcome

Happy gaming

Gribol (Ottomans) defeated Awesum4 (Hungarians) 13:43
Thank you for nice battle.

I will try to post a little story after work, if Awesum4 dont do it before me.
EDIT: Battle from Ottoman side of viev:

"The Hungarians starts to advance quickly as possible at all the front. They was well organized and form a disciplined, straight battle line.
Most of ours cavalry was poorly deployed in the center, before ours guns and inlantry, and they have to change positions redeploying at both flanks. But Hungarians advance very well and we dont have got time to prepare attack on the wings with those cavalry. So we must retreat both flanks to the hills at ours rear covered by light Turcomans, Serbians and Tatars. Through Hungarians advance we have got lost some men, but in meantime theirs King Louis was killed by a cannonball, so we have got a good exchange for ours lights.
But they still advance with courage. Hungarians wants to catch us in the woods and hills on both wings, where we was regrouping, so they divided army into two halves and attack us with fury on both flanks, and makes the center clear and empty from any troops.
That was the moment, when Sultan Soliman orders ours entire Imperial Reserves, consist the best Sipahi cavalry, to counterattack. Through the empty center we turn to the right (East) and attack the Hungarians left wing from behind and rout them. While ours left (West) flank was entangled into heavy melee fights, Hungarians tries to send some reinforcements to theirs massacred troops on the East flank, but they cames to late, and battle was ended"

Sorry for my not too good english.

Maybe Awesum4 will post his own descriprion, with the opponent point of viev. It can be interesting, how the second side see this same engagemt.

This despatch recently received from the village of Mohacs

Bajtárs, we have identified the Ottoman wearing the missing trousers of Pixel John Zápolya commander of the Transylvanian army and are now fully engaged against Sultan KiwiWarlord to reclaim them. The battle goes extremely well with thousands of our parasztok sacrificing themselves on the point of ottoman spears. We have targeted the unit containing the missing trousers but alas we may have to pay a heavy price to retrieve them with most of our army decimated. Nevertheless, we will return with them very soon but I fear without many hungarian survivors.
