Multiple pursuit in Impact Phase?

Page 108 says that if pursuers contact fresh enemy the combat is in the next impact phase, except that a contact in the impact phase is adjudicated in the same impact phase.

What happens if a unit breaks on impact, the pursuers hit new enemy who also break on impact? Do the pursuers pursue a second time in the same impact phase?

If the answer is yes it opens up spectacular possibilities! Imagine a flank charge on a battle line with deep formations, so routers running from the flank charge cannot avoid breaking through the next battle group in the line. First bg breaks, runs through the second bg dropping it a level (and maybe the third too), which then drops a level when pursuers hit, and breaks in impact combat. Then the same sequence happens down the battle line.

An entire army could be destroyed in one impact phase of multiple pursuits! I can't wait! All I have to do is find a stupid enough opponent...... Anyone want a game?

Yes you could roll down a whole line. Please don't let Hammy tell you the story of how he broke 4 BG in the same impact phase with one BG of XBow though. He tells it every time he gets chance

But still very successful for a single 4 base BG of protected MF with no impact or melee POA's.

You are right, once it happens to me the same, but I broke only 1 enemy BG and fragmented another 1. Great Kn's vs defensive spearmen!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S.: another interesting situation: loosing a Commander in first rank in close combat and then loosing 3 BG' after testing!!!!!!!!!

Well, I haven't seen that (but will start watching for it). We did have a chain reaction rout; when a unit broke from combat and the checking of nearby units caused 3 others to break or fragment.

Many 4 letter words were deployed

Another wrinkle on this. If the pursuers in the impact phase hit enemy that has also been charged by another BG do you fight that as a single combined impact, or two separate impacts?

I think if you try to fight the two impacts together it causes all sorts of anomalies - like if you already fought the charge impact before the impact that resulted in the pursuit.

I think the only way of playing this is to resolve all charge impacts, then resolve pursuit impacts as separate combats. However a BG should only drop a level once even if there are more than one flank charge as for ordinary multiple charges.

Yes, that is how the sequence of play works, not to mention the steps in between - CTs, deathrolls, commander losses, testing for lost commanders or breaking friends, and initial rout moves.

Aye, p56 already says the drop can only happen once in the same turn (not just same phase).
