Tatsinskaya 42

Hello

I am playing GC on Manstein level, and I've just finished this scenario.. Overall Stalingrad scenarios were not a mountain to climb, i got MV in Storming and Decisive Victories in Stalingrad Docks and Escape from Stalingrad. Losses were fully accteptable except some blunders

But the russsian raid on the airbase was i think the hardest scenario to date. I wasnt expected so much trouble with this. Is the "one" extra star of experience really so important that this single battle decimated my troops
In the center my plan was to lure russian tanks into forest area, they came but also went around and attacked on a broad front. In a single hit my Kerscher +4D was reduced to 3 str points... in the middle of battle i decided to go DV but 3 units needed full repairs (600 prestige total)

Ruski Air fighters are stiff here and guards immune to anything. Tank to tank battles are destined to disaster, only Stugs have chance.

Maybe i should go only for artillery with descent hard attack value, instead i included 2 x Nbl wf s and 2x 10,5 arty .

Aftermath : I have loaded next year Kharkov'43 and as a test restored my core units strenghts to pre Tatsinskaya levels (without upgrades)
Rapair total charge : 4700 prestige !

is the scenario really so hard or im just biased or so?

It is mostly about position and patience... but for sure not an easy one ;)

It's easily the hardest '42 East scenario I played on Manstein. To get a Decisive Victory, I used airborne troops to capture the very east VHs.

yeah, I also took the north east VH with paras.... and got costly DV in last turn...

But now i think i could play this scenario in a completly different way. Instead of forming defense line left to the airbase i could split my core into 2 groups, Bigger group in the norhern west sector where Shermans are coming. i could easily wipe them and in the same time start bombing incoming wave in the airbase area. by the time main forces clash with each other , weakend Russian tanks in forest are easy

Then retake all west VHs. if taken I am not sure
