Mulitiplayer connection issues

My the multiplayer connect is a contrarary beast.
I have a good net connection yet sometimes it takes 20 attempts to connect, and sometimes it refuses to connect at all (especially in the daytime, I'm in UK).
What gives please?

I can't connect to PBEM, too. The game tries, but after a short time, I'm back in the start screen of a normal game!
No message - no help, what's the problem to connect!
I disabled the windows firewall , but that seems not to be the problem.

FWIW, the newest patch 8.5.6 has improved connection. I've had no connection time-outs yet...

Ultimately, it's a problem on our server. We're moving systems in Sept that should help

I'm still getting time-outs here and there, but for me it's been significantly better than it was a few weeks ago.
