30 Years War team event - Round 3 begins

With the Protestants marching through Germany and burning Catholic villages and towns as they go (all in the name of holy vengeance etc), Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden decides to get in on the act. This would be a great opportunity for Sweden to enlarge its empire. His troops land and meet little opposition until they meet a hastily assembled Imperial army at Lutzen...

Will the Swedes under General Kiwiwarlord prevail and annex the Northern German territories to the Swedish empire?

Or will the might of the Awesum4 Habsburgs fight back and drive the Swedes into the Baltic?

--

There has been some turmoil in the two camps, not surprisingly for a civil war. Ebenezer of Saxony has done a John George and decided to retire from the war. This might have weakened the Calvinist cause but in a shock conversion, Fyybyn of Spain has denounced the Papal authorities and declared for the Lutheran camp.

--
So, here are the match-ups. Start when you like (but do not delay too long) - feel free to take a week to practice, against each other or the AI, as the scenario is tricky (but interesting).

The Swedes should launch the games please and inform their opponents when they have done so.

All games to be finished by end - August please. Then we move on to the French - Spanish phase.

Kiwiwarlord (Swedes) v Lascar (Catholics/Spanish etc)
Ahuyton (Swedes) v Awseum4 (Catholics/Spanish etc)
Gdod (Swedes) v Tomoegozen (Catholics/Spanish etc)
Gribol (Swedes) v Snugglebunnies (Catholics/Spanish etc)
Fybyyn (Swedes) v Smjohnso77 ((Catholics/Spanish etc)

I recently played an MP match of Lutzen as the Swedes, here it is -

It's a tough scenario for the Swedes to outright win, but the scenario victory conditions are quite achievable, though it's not easy. Luckily, I will be hiding behind entrenchments, garden walls, and Croats this time!

Thanks, just playing a couple of practice games to get a feel for it. It seems to offer a lot of possibilities with the hidden movement at the beginning. Good to hear of your tactical approach :D

How are the games going/

Awesum4 and I are just contacting each other. I was a bit slow in organising my troops unfortunately.

I know that Lascar and Kiwiwarlord are close to a big clash.

What about th other games?

My game vs Gdod is well advanced. The lines are pretty messy now , with Swedes breaking through here and there but Pappenheim's troops are rushing to the rescue. I think I'm up , score wise at the moment but it's all a bit messy and could probably go either way.

I am glad to hear the games are well underway.

My own with Awesum4 is now getting to the interesting stage. I was a bit slow in gathering my troops (the Swedes) together and advancing but our infantry lines have now et and are exchanging fire. I hope to get into contact without too many disruptions and flank attacks, which I think Awesum4 has set up for me.

That sounds extremely cunning of me. Wallenstein was not a cunning General, just extremely well organised, our mercenaries would never stoop to flank attacks. Or would they?

A lot of it is from the movie Alatriste -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g8_r60pqwA

It's a depiction of the final stages of the battle of Rocroi. Not bad, especially considering how few depictions we get of this period. Though if I were to nitpick, I'd say the depiction of Push of Pike/'Bad War' would probably be more accurate for an earlier period than the mid 17th century.

Ah. Alatriste. I've heard of it but never seen it. Looks quite good. Thanks for the info.
