Please don't let commander traits die!

Of all the things PzC 2 brought to the series by far my favorite thing was the commander traits. They allowed me to customize my game with various upsides or downsides and could seriously affect how I played the game. I literally will not play without slow modernization anymore because of how much I enjoy what it does to me playing the game (having to plan out what to upgrade is so fun imo). I really hope there are plans to have further expansions on this system with AO and other dlc. You could expand the current system with more effects to give older campaigns some possible new life (I've seen several really cool ideas that could change the original campaign) or you could even have campaign specific traits that would only need to be balanced around that campaign(s)

One example I thought of was in 1944 in the West you could take a "Panzer Lehr" trait which could possibly give you a few elite troops at the cost of other units gaining less experience. Another idea could be something like "Elite Reserves" which could come around 1942 or 43 where units you purchase come already with 1-2 stars of experience so they can better match up to enemy units later into the war. A negative trait idea could be like "Volksstrum Replacements" which would come from 1945 and could do something like decrease the stats of your infantry units (losing defense and/or attack in way that your infantry becomes a good degree worse). There are so many unique options that could be made in a thematic way that could really add extra awesome effects we might not be able to create if they had to work in all campaigns. I really hope something like this comes around but I also wouldn't mind if we just got another set of general positive and negative traits to give some new life into the traits system.

I too love the traits system. I honestly don't know how I'd go back to PC1 without them.

My current locked-in choices are: Slow Modernization and Inefficient Supply with Poor Maintenance often chosen for flavor. I don't always use Poor Maintenance, simply because I would rather it have been in some way manageable by the player (maybe a hero that negates it), and I don't like that there's no indication that a unit has been struck by it until you check it or try to move it. They should have made it put a broken wrench symbol on the unit icon or something.

For positives it's always: Flexible Command, Perimeter Control, and usually Industry Connections (this is guaranteed if I choose Retrograde as a negative). I really like the extra inventory management on powerful, limited units.

There's definitely room for expansion.
Positive traits could be stuff like:
  • "Medical Corps": Random chance every turn for infantry units to gain partial reinforcements
  • "Mechanical Corps": Random chance every turn for vehicle units to gain partial reinforcements
  • "Air Doctrine": Level Bombers produce outright kills instead of suppression
Negatives could be:
  • "Broken Codes": No fog of war for enemy units
  • "Limited Rations": Chance for encircled friendly units to lose HP every turn instead of gaining Suppression. Unit health will not go below the Suppression level.
  • "Inefficient Training": Units kept in reserve for a scenario will lose 50 experience per scenario down to the nearest whole level.

There is Zero chance that Commander Traits will go away.
They have been modified in the past, and may be modified in the future.
So any such suggestions will be listened to by the Devs, some may even be implemented.

Theres infantry general, panzer general so thats nice.

How about air force general, artillery general etc?

Maybe +1 range bonus to all artillery, or 1 less slot? - 2 or 3 trait points.

Something to make them tasty enough so people look at the power 4 , and think of taking something else.

maybe a planes one with 1.5x range?

maybe a movement one where wheels move like half-track?

There seems like lots of opportunity to refine and add to the list.

Negative ones i'd like are less movement range, maybe a less accuracy one. i'd happily take a 10% reduced accuracy to my units to get a couple of bonus trait points.

I play with the random option, because it makes each playthrough uniquely different, stops me getting the power 4 usually, and sometimes completely screws me with 12+ negative trait points. (Love that).
