Welcome to the Multiplayer Sub-Forum

Hi,

Welcome.

The intention of this forum is for people to be able to plan, arrange and discuss multiplayer games of Order of Battle.

Be that:
  • Competitive Multiplayer Games
  • Co-op games
  • Multiplayer Tournaments
  • Multiplayer Maps
With Tournaments coming to Order of Battle from 8.5.4 onwards, I thought it was about time we had a place to discuss these things.

Thanks

Multiplayer tournaments eh? Sounds promising indeed. Although a lot depends on exactly what maps are used. Of course the good thing is that if a map is considered unfair somehow (not a viewpoint I share, but one I've encountered) it's simple enough to alternate sides.

We had a tournament a few years ago that was like that. You and your opponent played both sides of the same scenario simultaneously. Bru modified several common scenarios, but as I recall you didn't see the actual scenario until the tourney match began. There were some significant changes in the maps and stuff like that.

I don't see the need to have modified scenarios but it worked out fine.

It was a lot of fun. I can't remember who won but I did okay, got whipped in the semi-final, if I recall correctly. Or maybe quarter-final.

ps, on second thought, it might not have been simultaneously, but we both had to play both sides of the scenario.

Heh there's definitely a few players out there I dread getting matched against. Now I think of it, I used to do multiplayer matches on the Nintendo DS version of Panzer General. Even managed to beat the highest ranked player. Once. Pretty sure you could count the number of active players on one hand as well. Still fun though.

It may sound, uh, dumb, but I've never played MP before. So, I'd very much appreciate a tutorial for dummyes on how to join and play MP games, if you please.
TIA

OK, you asked for the dummy introduction, so here goes.

Click on Multiplayer and then select PBEM++ Online

Note that some Challenges are password protected by the player hosting the challenge. This means players have arranged a 'private' match.
Also, note that multiplayer scenarios may included up to 4 players, human or AI. You may of course host your own match.

Scenarios with yellow stars are official and part of the standard installation. The others are custom and need to be manually installed.
You may select a player slot unless there's only one free slot left.

And multiplayer is great fun. I have my 'team' of players which help me test my custom multiplayer scenarios.
Heartily recommended.

If you're signed up to a tournament, the games will appear in your game list automatically, with your opponent already selected and ready for you to do the Deployment Phase.

(many MP maps will give you a deployment phase where you can purchase your own forces)

Thank you for the dummy version of multiplayer. How does a friend and I play a scenario we each own. Say from the Red Storm campaign? I'd love to also maybe set-up some custom scenarios. I'm a long time Combat Mission (1) player and like OOB.

Also, how do we save a multiplayer game in progress, if we have to stop the game before it's finished.

Thanks!

I assume you're talking about hotseat multiplayer games? Because if it's Play By E-Mail the turns are saved automatically. I've never played hotseat myself so can't really help you there, sorry.

You are not allowed to save a game manually in hot-seat during the turn.
The turn is automatically saved when you end it. The game over-writes the previous save.

Hello All,

New to the MP game. Does Order of Battle support cross-platform MP battles? Have a friend on a Mac and we don't see each other matches.

The Mac version of the game is quite old, you'll need to use the same game version as them.

I have some of the multiplayer games in my computer - but others are missing.

How can I find the multiplayer scenarios that I lack?

I have all of the OOB games and expansions.

Thanks
