There will be a 15mm FOG competition at this year's event. 3 themed pools with a team entering one player in each. All armies 800pts. Pools are:
Classical (Imortal Fire & Rise of Rome)
Middle East & Crusades (Decline & Fall, Swords & Scimitars)
European Medieval (Storm of Arrows)
Individuals can also enter (but please be flexible if you can so we can make up teams). This info should be up on the website soon (
www.worldwargames.co.uk). Please e-mail me for more info (
mlu120@aol.com).
Cheers
Marc
PS - I'm aware that this comp had a mixed reputation with DBMers. Please be assured that all the organisers have changed! Those who have played DBM in the last couple of years will hopefully agree that things are different![/list]

Quick question, will the draw be done on a theme by theme bases (i.e. three seperate tournaments with a combined score at the end) or will they be done on a combined points basis like the old teams comp used to be?
BTW The themes look good

Each Pool will effectively be run as a separate competition - that way I can also accept individual entries & have more scope to even out the numbers. Draws for each round will therefore be based on the standings within each pool rather than team standings. We'll end up with a prize for each of the pool winners plus team prizes for the best aggregate score - total number dependent on the number of entrants.

Hmm, tempting.
To be honest I don't care about prizes, I just loathe team based draws as it IMO encourages people to play 'for the team' and get a draw.

IMO this rather severly dilutes the team bit and makes it 3 singles comps where you also happen to have a prize for the highest scoring team - as happened at Roll Call and I don't think that ever really felt like a team event. Unlike Hammy I rather like the altered dynamic of a proper team event over the singles event, although he is correct that it does mean that at times people for a draw as it is better for the team than risking going for the win and losing - hasn't been a factor in me not enjoying a team event though.

You are right Nik - there are pros & cons I think of both approaches. All I would plead is that I have tried to listen to views expressed both on this forum & verbally & opinion is fairly well divided. I will try to promote the "team" concept over that of the individual at the event!
Hope you will give the comp another go(?)

Hi, one quick question. I'm slowly painting a greek army in 10mm. The infantry phalanx I've done so far are on 40x20mm bases. Would I be able to use 10mm figures at this tourney if I base the cavalry etc to the 15mm requirements?

I see no reason why you can't use 10mm figs provided they are on the right size bases. Just hope that your army doesn't suffer poor form through feeling vertically challenged

I'm sure they would suffer more from my poor generalship! I've been struggling to find the motivation to get them finished and this tournament could be the answer!

Hi there
Would you prefer teams to be made up of members from the same club where viable?

Rob,
I have no preference for how teams are made up - indeed if there are individual entrants I will try to combine these into teams in any case. It's therefore not important that teams are from the same club.

I don't know how many teams have entered but I suspect there will be at least one and probably two teams from MAWS or mostly from MAWS.

Hi all,
Glad to note the interest being shown in the event this year. I'm afraid I can't report on the current number of entries but I'll find out from DWA & post an update in the next week or so.
I've had a guy from the USA contact me who's coming over to the UK and wants to play but doesn't have an army, so if there's anyone out there with a team of 2 looking for another player & who can supply an army please let me know.
Finally, just to confirm that each pool will effectively operate as a separate competition - so no "team draw" but the points will be added together to get team positions. One idea that I've been toying with is to allow teams to shuffle their players between pools - so in other words if someone has played in Pool A (say) for the first 2 rounds they could swap with their other team mates and play in Pool B/C if they want. I'b be interested if anyone thinks this is a good idea or not!?!
Cheers
Marc
