Weekly round-up
Geffalrus (Antigonid) is still top in Division A with 2 wins from 2 starts. Snugglebunnies (Hannibal in Africa) also has 2 wins but has played 4 matches and XLegione (Samnite) has started with a win. The wheels have come off for paulmcneil (Galatians) at the top of Division B after his third successive defeat leaves him with just 4 wins from 8 matches after a blistering start. herm (Roman) and Morbio (Roman) have both won their first 2 matches and look likely to contest the top position very soon. In Division C DzonVejn (Saka) decisively won the top of the table contest against Tresantes (Pyrrhic) while fikabo (Jewish) moved into second place after his second win from 2 starts. Schweetness101 (Hannibal in Africa) has a firm grip on proceedings in Division D now after his fifth straight win while vakarr (Thracian) is in second place with 3 wins from 4 starts.
Unbeaten runs of 3 matches or more
DzonVejn (Saka) 3 matches
Schweetness101 (Division D) 5 matches
Match completion rate (45 matches in total to be played in each division)
Division A - 9 out of 45 matches completed
Division B - 15 out of 45 matches completed
Division C - 10 out of 45 matches completed
Division D - 13 out of 45 matches completed
These are generally good match completion rates.
Player of the week
Schweetness101 (Division D) with 3 wins this week.

Division C
Bluefin (Kappadokian) defeats DzonVejn (Saka with allies) 40-10.
Just might have been the roughest terrain I've ever seen, which is exactly what the Kappa medium footers love.

Group A
Nijis (Chinese, Zhou & Warring States 350-222 BC) defeats IMC (Chinese, Han 206-100 BC) 43-16.
Both sides exchanged arrow fire across a stream. Weak spots appeared in the Han array first, and the Zhou were charge across and roll up the line. The mirror game went roughly the same way, but IMC won.

Group A
IMC (Chinese, Zhou & Warring States 350-222 BC) defeats Nijis (Chinese, Han 206-100 BC) 63% v 37%
Better to melee than to shoot is the morale of these stories. Best of luck in the next rounds.
Nijis has qualified for the semi-finals where he will play nyczar.

Division D
Schweetness101- Carthaginian (Hannibal in Africa) 202 BC defeated bomber23 - Syracuse 412-281BC with Kyrenean Greek ally: 56-31
I tried an odd deployment in this game with my infantry on the far left on some rough ground and held back, with light cavalry way in front of them, while my non-light cavalry were on the far right with an elephant and light foot in front. I had some difficulty at first, not doing well with my light cavalry against the enemy light foot on my left, and losing almost all of my light foot on the right to enemy light foot and infantry charges. However, the overall plan of getting the Syracusan giant hoplite line split into two parts, with their left wing of hoplites committed against my right wing of faster cavalry, worked in that those cavalry of mine could return to support my infantry before his infantry left wing could cut back to join them. Ultimately, this left all of my cavalry and infantry working together against half of his infantry line, while the other half of his infantry line was way across the map.
Here is a shot from the end of the battle. My infantry and cavalry in the picture occupy where his right flank of infantry were, and his left flank, at this point consisting of 7 mostly untouched hoplites, are on their way back to help, but it was too late (2 of them almost got there):

Division A
SnuggleBunnies (Carthaginian (Hannibal in Africa) (5% routed) draws with Geffalrus (Antigonid) (2% routed)
The Carthaginians occupied some good rough ground. They attempted to gain skirmish superiority but were badly thrashed. The Antigonids stayed deployed in open ground with their phalanxes covered by Heavy Artillery, limiting the ability of the Carthaginian elephants to advance. With neither side willing to attack, both armies called it a day.

Division A
sunnyboy (Lydian) beat youngr (Median) 60-40
A tough opponent with difficult army to come to grips with. The Lydian hoplites plodded across the map after swarms of horse archers, somehow managing to catch up with enough of them to hit the 60% mark.
Thanks for the game Richard, those cohesion tests didn't do you any favours.

Geffalrus
And yes, neither side was overly interested in venturing into the other's prepared ground. Plus, we spent so long skirmishing that there's not enough time left to really make a fancy plan to change the situation.
