The easiest way is to open to the battle page, set the dates to 1000 to 1400 AD then select to view by date. Scroll the list to find armies available between 1038 AD to 1319 AD.

I'd like to give this a go, even though I will be disconnected from my home base and computer for some periods of time - unlikely more than a week at a time, but specific dates undetermined at current time.

As to armies, I'll try my hand at some version of the Egyptians, as follows:
(1) Egyptian 945-720 BC with Philistine 800-600 BC allies
(2) Egyptian 945-720 BC without allies
(3) Egyptian 1068-946 BC

I suspect one of my challenges may be effectively using this message board - I'm hoping that I have the notifications set properly, which may help (if successful). Is there a topic somewhere that describes the notice board functionality?
