Hey Guys, REMEMBER TO TAKE SCREENSHOTS AND STOP YOUR BATTLES AFTER GERMAN PLAYER FINISHES HIS TURN WITH "3 turns remaining".
So both sides are permitted to take their turn 3... Allies always move first, so Germans always get the last move...
Our battles are 20 turns long (from "22 remaining" to "3 remaining") leaving 2 extra turns to report which side holds which VP flags (points) and the KIA (killed in action) screen.
(the extra 2 turns are just in case the German side forgets to stop at "3 turns remaining"; once the game actually ends it's impossible to get back to flags and KIAs).
How are the battles going?
Any of 'em almost done?
GJS'44 Rules & Regs wrote:7.6 The battle is ended once the German player has completed his move showing "3 turns remaining", ie. Games last for 20 turns.
7.61 At the end of the game, the German player should post on this thread which side holds each of the five VP flags, using each flag's label name and showing its VP points value, for example:
June 6th - Juno Beach VPs
German - Road to Tailleville (5 pts)
German - Road to Courseulles (5 pts)
Allied - West Cliff (3 pts)
Neutral - Barracks (3 pts)
Allied - Juno Bunker (1 pt)
German 10 pts v Allied 7 pts
German victory
7.62 The German player must also take a screenshot of the units killed in action (KIAs) screen, showing both sides losses, and post it to this forum thread.
7.63 The Allied player should quote the German's battle report on this thread and add "VP flags and KIAs agreed". If the Allied player does not agree, the German player must post screenshots showing each of the five VP flags, and return the game to the Allied player.
7.64 Negotiated ceasefire. One player more propose a ceasefire to his opponent at any time before "5 turns remaining" shows. The two players may then negotiate a conclusion to their battle, over factors including which BG wins the sector, which BGs withdraw to which adjacent sectors and whether any BG is dissolved. During a negotiated ceasefire, a losing BG may be dissolved, ie. removed from the Strat Map, with or without additional loss penalties applied, if both players agree to this. Once agreement has been reached, the terms of the ceasefire should be communicated to that day's GM, who will confirm whether they are permissible. Battle resumes if agreement cannot be reached or is not permissible.

PS. If a battle accidentally runs past the German player taking his "3 turns remaining" turn (and the German forgets to post VP flags and KIAs
AFTER taking his turn; it's easy to forget, I've done it myself, doh), then the Allied player must stop
BEFORE and instead of taking his "2 turns remaining" turn.
It's no problem if this happens. So long as both sides take turn 3, and neither side takes turn 2, the end result will be exactly the same...

preliminary results in..and my brave paras have lost Vimont...

Was a good fight, and almost made a run at it in the end....Germans managed to take back both 5pointers in the end and take the victory. Germans 11pts....Allies 6 pts....
My forces left at end were....1 para, 2 mortars, 2 carriers, 2 piat, and a flamey unit. (I have 2 units...1 para and 1 engineer unit still in force pool)
Not going to be much of Ole 3/6 after penalites...but, will be able to merge with another unit and give them some extra stuff.

Good Game Mlazar.
Mike

I confirm that. Here are screen shots for a VERY close game. If his flamey unit had killed by engineers the game would have gone the other way. I ended up with 3 of the 5 vp spaces and a total of 11 pts

Summarised Battle Results - June 7th PM
VIMONT - German Victory - German Supply Route Re-opened
Allied (3/6ab) KIAs = 17 = 3x Eng, 4x Para, 3x Scout, 2x PIAT, 1x Mortar, 1x 6pdr, 1x17pdr, 2x Bren = BG dissolved (no adjacent friendly sector to withdraw to)
German (125/21Pz) KIAs = 10 = 3x Inf, 2x Eng, 1x MG42, 1x Scout, 2x 251/1, 1x WirbelAA
I'll update these to our OOB, minus the 10% (rounded up) dissolution penalty for 3/6ab in Vimont
GottaLove88s wrote:Battle Previews - June 7th PM
CAEN: 6al/6 (AMR+) ME v Ost/411/716 (P-)
Messy urban environment, dominated by a castle, with a port at its heart. Infantry/scouts/recon essential. To win here you need to train in cities, eg. Ortona.
VIMONT: 125/21Pz AFD v 3/6ab (MR)
VILLERS-BOCAGE: 192/21Pz v 5al/6 (MR)
Both of these are deceptive. At first glance they appear to be open, tank country, and indeed they are, but there are lots of trees and cornfields to hide in, plus scattered stony river fords, dune grass, and rough ground in fields, where anything, from a piat to a 17pdr, can sit and wait in secret. Played well, these can go either way. Played aggressively, you'll get a battering as Allies or as Germans.
HILLMAN BATTERY: 7/3cdn (N) AFD v II/726/716 (AMRP-) [this one's tbc pending what happens during June 7th AM?]
Modelled somewhat close to reality, these 152mm coastal batteries were actually taken from behind in WW2. So Hillman should be a tough ask when it's assaulted from the front, but the Allies benefit from their devastating Naval Artillery and II/726/716 may have been weakened by a prior attack during June 7th AM.
Explanation of bonuses that were allocated:
A=Arty, N=Naval Arty, M=Medic, R=Rally, P=Promote, +=Air-landing so scattered on arrival, -=Out of supply morale penalty

Villers-Bocage, we've played about 6 turns so far. The Germans control 3 flags. The British have lost 1xEng, 2xPiat, 1xFT, 1xMortar; Germans no losses.

Hey Jon
Let me know when you think I should start up CAEN as the commander there for the Allies.
No word on Iprop, hope he's okay and just busy suddenly.

To help answer some questions from Mike, here's an illustration of the heavy impact of dissolution...
125/21Pz is not dissolved and will simply have its losses subtracted from the pre-battle pool for that battle group (BG).
3/6ab is dissolved and suffers its actual battle losses plus an additional 10% penalty on the units in its post-battle pool, rounded up.
3/6ab started June 7th PM with 27 units... 4x Eng, 6x Para, 3x Scout, 4x PIAT, 1x Flamey, 3x Mortar, 1x 17pdr, 1x 6pdr, 4x Bren carriers.
17 units were lost in battle, leaving 10 units in its post-battle pool... 1x Eng, 2x Para, 2x PIAT, 1x Flamey, 2x Mortar, 2x Bren.
These "survivors" are then subjected to the 10% dissolution penalty, ie. 0.1x Eng, 0.2x Para, 0.2x PIAT, 0.1x Flamey, 0.2x Mortar, 0.2x Bren.
But the 10% penalties are rounded up to 1x Eng, 1x Para, 1x PIAT, 1x Flamey, 1x Mortar, 1x Bren.
So dissolution costs 3/6ab a painful extra six units lost...
That leaves the dissolved BG with 4 units... 1x Para, 1x PIAT, 1x Mortar, 1x Bren.
Plan your BG withdrawal routes ahead, just in case everything goes pear-shaped... Dissolution hurts.

Got a reply from Mitch/iProp... Apparently he'd gone incommunicado and this is the first he'd heard of the match...
I've sent him links to June 7th battles, Al's post with pword, and basics on what to expect in Caen...
Good luck both!

Guys,
For everyone trying to figure out what the results of our battles June 7th AM and PM actually mean, Mac has very kindly taken time out from his fabulous Battle of the Bulge campaign to update our Strategic Campaign Map.
A quick glance reminds that nothing is set in stone and there's everything still to play for.
Winner of today's Caen battle gets the +1 movement bonus... which could quickly swing the fortunes of war...
Thanks Mac. It's generous of you to help us and we really appreciate it!!

Gents, Just a quickie to check... Is everybody able to see all of the VP flag text now?
Obviously it's important to know the VP point values...

Yes I can, it's working correctly in Hillman.
About 4-6 turns to go over there.

4-6 turns eh? Who's winning?
That looked like a tough assault with a difficult river crossing?
But no shortage of good kit for the attackers...

we were a little lighter on transport than desired.
but, not as short as the defen. ders, I think.
we have a few flags and are going for more to try to push him out of the sector
