Hello all, my massive bloated isp provider has been down for over 12 hours and they have no eta, so there’s going to be delays getting turns on. Meanwhile, bombard, can you please set up our game?

Aetius39 (Spartan 680 BC) defeats Mairtin (Roman 490 BC) 47-14

Spartan veterans eventually couldn't be stopped, breaking through the middle lines. Good playing from my opponent made it harder for me though!

SnuggleBunnies (Roman) defeats Nosy_Rat (Syracusan) 53-24

A gentlemanly match. The map was divided by a large stream. The Romans backed away to make room for the Greeks to cross. The Greeks accepted the invitation, and the battle was largely fought in the open. As usual, a far closer match than the numbers suggest.

Aetius39 (Bosporan 84BC) defeats TomoeGozen (Achaemid Persian 480BC) 61-32

It was a messy shoot-a-thon for a while, but ultimately Bosporan cavalry broke through the archers and ended it. Good playing by my opponent; it was closer than the score would show.

Aetius (Slav) defeats Rob123 (Armenian) 48-13

Both sides postured and vied for positioning the first few rounds. After a while the Slav right started to skirmish Armenian left, which then became full battle. It was back and forth for a while, until the cavalry on the Slav left broke through. The rest of the Armenian line fell soon after. Partner played a good game that was very close until the last few turns, thanks!

Result - Div 2 game 21

Mairtin (Median 836BC) defeated rs2excelsior (Avar 632AD) 58-33

My opponent played well, but outnumbering him 3-1, and more than a few lucky holds from my fragmented units, letting me bring in help, were the deciding factor.

Division 2

rs2excelsior (British 600 AD) beat TomoeGozen (Atropatene 146 BC) 63-56

An intense match that was every bit as close as the score indicates. I deployed my shieldwalls on the left of my line, where they could take advantage of a hilltop to defend, and a long line of Brythonic foot in the woods to their right. The British cavalry was also deployed behind the woods. Atropatene's army's main strike force was its cataphracts, backed up by a solid mass of irregular foot and archers.

My shieldwalls were forced to press forwards by the tide of arrows raining down on them, and bore the brunt of the Cataphract charge stoically. I had to commit my Brythonic foot into the open even with cataphracts about - as suicidal as that felt at the time, it drew off some of their irregulars and cataphracts, and the Brythonic foot could actually take the irregulars one on one. They paid a high price for it, but they came to the aid of the heavy infantry when they needed all the support they could get. The British cavalry avoided clashing with the vastly superior Atropatene horsemen as much as possible, instead assaulting their light troops and irregulars. In the end, the shieldwalls ground down the cataphracts by sheer weight of numbers, and it came down to whose unit would give way first - the last couple of turns the score set at 59-56. In the end a fragmented irregular gave way under the attacks of the Brythonic troops before one of my shieldwalls broke from arrow fire, and the British carried the field. The British general was heard to quip, "A few more victories like this and we'll be ruined!"

Thanks to rs2excelsior for the game , a real nail biter:-)
This brings to an end my games in this tourney , it has been an excellent experience despite only one win(which was one more than I expected to be honest). Thank you to Karvon for organising it and to all of my opponents for 7 great fun games.
I will be back....

Division 2

rs2excelsior (Urartian 681 BC) beat bomber23 (Alan 25 AD) 43-16

The Urartian line deployed with its wings on hills and its center in the valley between them, and a small cavalry detachment behind each flank. The goal was simply to out-shoot the Alan horse archers with the mixed medium foot. The initial exchanges of fire went well, with a couple of horse archers fragmenting or breaking. The right flank cavalry detachment ran into some trouble against the Alan lancers, and those same lancers broke through the infantry line in a couple of places, though they pursued far enough that they didn't have any further effect on the battle. The Urartian left enveloped the Alan right a bit, heavily disordering some of their cavalry with massed bow-fire, as the Urartian C-in-C's three cavalry drove off the enemy skirmishers on that flank and wheeled around. These units proved to be the decisive blow, as on subsequent turns two of them charged shaky Alan cavalry, broke them, and pursued making multiple subsequent charges and reaching the somewhat beleaguered Urartian right. Honestly, I probably have to credit the win more to the luck of those two devastating charges than any particular skill on my part or mistake of my enemy.

Macedonczyk(French 888) beat SnuggleBunnies (Egyptian 570BC) 43:8

In 3 turn, I thought I'd lose. I used horses to be first at strategic hill. Unfortunately, it was a stupid idea - even though they were armoured were shouted out by egyptian archers and heavy chariots. Because of that my shieldwalls were caught on the slope (100m) by hoplites. In an act of desperation I attacked heavy chariot with shieldwall to unlock the last horse on the hill. And this Lancer decided to take revenge for lost horses by destroying 2 egyptians archers, 2 hoplites (both with generals) and heavy chariot in 4 or 5 turns. And another luck: my Shieldwalles on the slope were smart enough to move back in mele which allowed me to make flank attacks on 2 hopplites.
