The Persians succeeded in crashing through and basically crushing the Macedonian's left flank, but the right flank holds and the center phalanxes crash through and rout the Persian levied infantry before the Persians could exploit the destruction of the Macedonian left.

Could you also post the actual scores?
I think the Persians should shoot more on the Macedonians right (with more horse archers there) and charge more on their left.
Historically Alexander had to come back to save his left wing. His right wing held, but probably only because the Persians withdrew upon learning of what happened in the centre.

Next weekend I will post the scenarios and matchups of the Hellenistic age: Paraitakene 317 BC and Raphia 217 BC. The era of the huge pike pileups in the centre and cavalry charges on the wings with a few elephants thrown in for good measure.

Alexander carved through the Persian centre, ultimately surrounding and eliminating Darius and the last pocket of Persian infantry.

There are three Greek cavalry in the centre that could go in any direction; these were all brought up to support Alex. The Macedonian left had to fend for itself, and managed to do this to the very end, though they took heavy casualties.

Meanwhile, Persian archery against the Macedonian right proved ineffective. Frustrated, Bessos led a charge, only to get himself killed. Prodromoi and hoplites counter-attacked and pushed back the entire Persian wing.
