voskarp (EAPersians) [34/44] vs warmonger (later Carthaginian) [57/52]

The MF Persians hid in the forrest, making it difficult for the HF spearmen to do their thing.

DIVISION B RESULT

Turk1964(Seleucids) 29/46 vs Macsen(Hatran) 62/62

A very bloody affair this one with the Seleucids managing to win against a wall of archers. At the end of the battle the bodies of the fallen Seleucid warriors were bristling with Hatran arrows. Those still standing had shields weighed down with arrows and many had shafts protruding from their bodies.A hard fight and costly victory, well played Mac...

Div (B)

Draw: flatsix518 (Pontic) 47/43 vs fogman (Indo-Greek) 57/53

Fogman really pulled a rabbit out of a hat with this one. I got a comfortable lead, he reduced it. At the end of my last turn it was 35/43 vs 52/53 and fog man pulled out all the stops and got the draw. Well played in what was a difficult matchup for him.

I didn't think i would be able to tie. it was a disadvantageous matchup, a mostly shooty army with nowhere to entrench against an impact army, and terrain actually made it worse by preventing me from deploying to take advantage of my greater numbers. but i saw the opening in the last two turns when your pike line withered against mine which benefited from the presence of an inspired leader, and when 3 or 4 rear attacks were about to fall into my lap due to anarchy and pursuit. then it almost didn't happen because my camp fell a turn too early and i barely escaped to get my last turn. good stuff.

Div (B)

flatsix518 (Pontic) 42/52 vs turk1964 (Seleucids) 44/44

A close, tough nail-biter. I won the initiative and got a battle field with a great, big, fat hill on it that I could get to the top of first. Turk named it "Mount Doom". He bravely attacked me on the hill. BTW, his army looked like a marching band on it's approach. A tough battle raged all along one face of the hill and we each beat the other's left flank. The end of the game was actually hilarious. I had done all I could to win the game, but was left with two BPs to go. With my draw to fogman fresh in my mind, I was certain I was going to turn the game over to Turk and he'd pull out a draw or win (needing only 10 BPs to do it). I was adjusting the positioning of one of my MFs and it anarchied on me, slammed into a LF that couldn't get away and killed it. Game won and done through absolutely blind luck. Crazy.

Yes a close battle and yet again the Seleucids have been defeated  The Pontics took early advantage by taking possesion of a large hill with cliffs at the summit. At first the Seleucid commander thought to stay deployed on the vast plain where an easy victory was assured. On consultation with his commanders and the examining of goats entrails it was decided to march up the hill and knock the filthy Pontics of their perch.Yes we deployed in splendid fasion with all ranks in perfect formation and marched foward in song. On reaching the foothills it was evident the Pontic toads wernt about to attack so the order was given to lower pikes and advance to the summit. A fierce battle ensued and the dead were piled in heaps on both sides but the hill was too steep and the Pontics gained advantage . The Seleucids began to lose heart but fought on bravely to the end.The Spectical of all thos fine troops slane in all their finery was more than any mortal could stand and the battle ended with a stunning Victory for the Pontic commander. Well played my friend and we shall meet again :)

Cheers Turk

This came up last year when I, Lydianed, played the Lydians in LOEG 9. I lost all but one game! Anyway, for the avoidance of doubt the name Lydianed is a not-so-clever ellision of "Lydia" and "Ned" the names of my two eldest children. I am not Lydian Ed.

Dave, the challenge has been snaffled by someone else. New one up for you pw "dave"

Update: Jules modified the post I was referring to, below, because he thought I'd been offended. I wasn't at all. We Texans are proud of our low level of humor.

Jules -- that was harsh, especially considering all I've done for you...

Div C

Lydianed (EAP Plataea) 16/41 vs. Razorback (Pyrrhic) 45/42

A tough fight for the slow moving pikes against the mobile shooty Persians. The main Pyrrhic assault was broken up by bow fire and cavalry meaning they couldn't hit the Persians anywhere in big enough numbers. The appearance late on of the Pyrrhic cavalry threatened to catch the Persians in the open but their intervention came a little too late to save the day. Thanks for the game Razor.

Div (B)

flatsix518 (Pontic) 37/45 vs philoi (26th Dyn Egyptian) 50/50

Philoi completely outplayed me in this game and deserved to win. He had a clever battle plan that completely caught me out. I maneuvered poorly and made the worst troop type match-ups and positional errors you can imagine. The short of it is that my outnumbered pikes crushed his armoured hoplites -- but it was the dice gods intervening, no skill required.

Div. C

voskarp (E. A. Persians) [29/39] vs Cromlechi (Later Macedonian) [38/38]

The Persians found refuge against the forrest of pikes among hills and plantations. A rain of arrows weakened the phalanxes marching to attack and the melee was eventually won, despite the untimely death of the C-in-C.

Div B

rexhurley (EAP's Greek Wars) 48/57 bt Turk (Selecuids - later) 45/45

In a game where the terrain didnt really suit Turk he did well to push me this hard. Thanks for the game as always.

rexhurley (EAP's Greek Wars) 51/57 bt Ironclad (Alex Mac's) 43/41

Brutal to the extreme and my left evaporated and by the time the pie blocks had climbed the hills my right had enveloped them from the rear. Thanks for the game ironclad and continuing to push in the face of adversity

Cheers Rex
