Marc:

Do you want me to follow up with Byron or are you happy?

Also isnt this a "fun" competition... ;) I could understand concerns if this was 25mm FOGR at next years Rollcall...(which is open anyway.) or a similar major compitition..

Cheers
Nigel

All competitions should be "fun" Nigel - otherwise why bother? - but I thought the idea of a theme is that we all use similar-ish armies. And I'm not sure it will be fun for any of Byron's opponents if he rocks up with Swiss?

But I'll still be coming whatever you decide - and I'll try and look happy if/when I get bulldozed by an Elite Swiss Keil! :D

@Don:

Byron would like to borrow a TYW army please,,,, I suspect TYW French + Regt Guns would be prefered, if not nearest that can be done...

Apologies to anyone I'd confused - originally I was going to theme it to match my one 15mm army - so 1630-1700. However Nigel asked if Byron could use Swiss and I agreed. The paper flyers I handed out at the 2nd Southern League don't mention dates.

We have one other entry with a pre-1600 army , everyone else is using 30 years war or later armies. Might be interesting to see how they fare against Swiss...

So I'm happy for Byron to turn up with Swiss or a borrowed later army. :D

Collected the trophies today and received the penultimate army list/confirmation. Looks like we'll have 18 players more or less.

I'll publish the runners and riders tomorrow.

I'll set up the first round draw later in the week. Probably go for geographical/date match ups for 1st round - avoiding intra club clashes though :-)

Contact if you have problems before the day :- 01252 548844.

I'll post a mobile number for the day later.

So suggested initial pairings (please scream if I've made a mistake)

Tim Wickens (Safavid) vs Marc Priest (Russians) (most easterly armies - horse archers on both sides)
Alan Brown (Covenanters) vs Andrew Urwin (Montrose)
Don Avis (Anglo Dutch) vs Nigel Emsen (Jacobite)
Ray Boyles(Later Hapsburg Austrian) vs Tom Elsworth (Louis XIV)
Jim Gibson (Later Imperial Spanish) vs Byron Emsen (30 Years war French )
Pete Dalby (30 YW Swedish) vs Tim Porter (30 YW German)
Richard Jeffrey Cook (30 YW German) vs Chris Beesley (30 YW Danes or German)
Ben Jones (30 YW French) vs Michael Shepherd (early Louis XIV) - pretend its the Fronde
Mark Fry (New Model Army/Late Danes) vs Dave Allen (??? But I think he was looking at 30 YW or ECW)

If we lose anyone, I drop out and Tim could be facing anything)

Perhaps if you ask Don very, very nicely he'll forget his gunpowder etc ...

Otherwise you'll have to just wave your swords :-)

Thanks for posting the R&R Marc. Just to clarify - my army list date is 1632.

And a big thank you to Byron for leaving the Swiss at home. :)

Scaredy cat :) thank you to don who offered up an army for him... His army is still an attacking one... He's got fangle complicated things in it... I'm prefer the simpler approach, hence my choice :) nothing to do with an interest in that area of history of course.

Sorry for the delay chaps. It's French 30 Years War, 1635-ish.

Hmmm - funny that - I was thinking more of a Battle of Dunkeld and the Haughs of Cromdale!!

I think that's 25-0 to the English and a field full of dead Jacobites!

Semantics, :) Well atleast your not trying to claim Cullodean :) given I will have had my usual zero practice given I'm still painting, I doubt it will be a killcrankie ....
