Well that is part of the idea behind which units were selected as candidates for being captured equipment.
Would you really want to use a... Polish TKS tank if you captured it? There's no reason to do so, there is a wealth of purchasable equipment that is superior.
Captured equipment was selected based on units the player would actually want to use. Remember they have a penalty of starting out as 0 experience, which also can make them hard to use. So we picked units that compliment the player nicely. There are no high armor units available in the early years of the war, so it's possible to get a Char B and Matilda II, both of which have incredible armor ratings for that period of the war. Eventually they fall into disuse, but for as long as they are around, they're pretty amazing. Same story with the Soviet tanks, eventually they will fall into disuse, especially once the late Panzer IVs, Panthers, and Tigers show up, but when you get your first KV-1B in early DLC 1941, it's the BEST THING EVER. lol
Seriously, 5 speed, great armor, decent firepower, plenty of fuel and ammunition capacity, what's not to luv?
Even so, it's like like you're upgrading these units to other Russian units. You can't turn your KV-1C into a KV-85 or a IS-2, you either retire it or if you like the experience and heroes on it, you can upgrade it into standard German equipment.

To be clear, it's not hard to let the captured units fall into disuse. Simply don't use them, or disband them. While the game doesn't force you to do so, the option is still there.
Those captured KV tanks are too good... Even massively nerfed in terms of ammo/speed/fuel they are still the best thing ever for 1941 and 1942. However I'm liking those T-34s more these days.

Ok, you are right, i don't have to upgrade them and use but human nature is harder to win with than massive soviet infantry attack. In game rules make it easier

Perhaps in DLC 43 the soviets will capture some German stuff

I use my captured tanks for risky missions, Stalingrad killed 6, still I got many of them alive.

That would be a cool thing to see. Even if just a random artillery piece or nice AT weapon.

marsellus wrote:My suggestion is that all captured units couldn't be able to upgrade into base units. In time they would started to be useless and fall out of the core army. That would also prevent from creating unrealistic army using more captured than "out of factory" units. In present (for example in 1941 campaing) captured soviet tanks are becoming too strong value - imho. Maybe there should be a maximum percentage of captured units that army can absorb but probably that would make a need to create another type next to core and SE units what maybe wouldn't be good. Just an idea...
P.S.
Sorry for all mistakes - my english isn't very good

I think in the 41 DLC the captured equipment seems to be at its best / worst. What I mean is that you get a lot of units that are much better than yours and are very helpful. By the 42 DLC their use is significantly reduced even when you can only upgrade to some of the more advanced PZ-IVs. They really help in 41 and then in 42 you have to upgrade them to stock German tanks anyway. I do think the sheer number of captured units in DLC 41 and 42 was a bit of an issue though. But I found of all the captured stuff in 42 I only kept the SU-122 and disbanded the rest as soon as I got it.

Thanks for this list, but there is an other KV-1C to capture in the mission "Stalingrad Assault"
I wonder why there is no Panhard to capture in '40 DLC. The unit exists in the editor, and in one mission you have one (under hungarian flag)

Thanks for the great info, everybody. I wasn't paying attention to any of this in DLC '39 and '40 until I saw this thread. Luckily I read it right before Minsk and picked up the t34/40 and then the KV-1B in Smolensk. Can't wait to build up some hero bonuses on the KV-1, it's a beast! I will look for the t34/41 coming up soon.

Captured units are too many and too good.
The following flags should be added to them in the equipment file: noupgrade noreplace
This would limit their usage to a level somewhat realistic.

Usefulness tapers off drastically after 1941.

I wouldn't say drastically. Halfway though DLC'42 I have two captured KV-1b I have are my favorite for putting on the front line to soak up damage with 18 defense. The t34/40 is not so great anymore, they get chewed up pretty badly now, that low initiative really hurts so I only use them as the cleanup crew. If only we could capture one of those KV-2 or KV-5 beasts

Let me clarify my point. Before DLC 42 the Russian, French, and British tanks are hands down better than anything you can field (except the Somua which is a toss up with a PZ-IVD). Once you get access to the PZ-IV f/2 at the beginning of DLC 42 this is no longer the case.

That's true, and it's also why the units were chosen to be captured units. Because they are valuable, useful, and are units that the player should want to use. This is controlled by their inability to be upgraded cheaply (no family discount), they are limited in quantity(can't buy as many as you want), AND you have to find them.

Warsaw: Polish artillery
Hey Kerensky, since you mentioned this I wanted to bring up a VERY small beef (sorry if it's already been covered elsewhere). I still have this piece in my core as I'm playing the 1942 DLC. There seems to be no way to upgrade the unit's wheeled transport (I'd like to ditch the truck for a halftrack). I suppose that, other than disbanding the unit and rebuilding it, there's no way to improve its set of wheels?

No you are wrong when you upgrade the unit to another artillery type you can upgrade the transport at that time.

You can actually find two in DLC 4. They are pretty close to a Tiger tank so a good find.
