TheGrayMouser wrote:Hey D quick question re the below rule:
"Max 50% superior HF/MF"
example: The Dag allows up to 9 superior legions and 9 average
does the 50% rule mean I could buy 9 superior but would also have to take 9 average? 50% criteria appears to be met or 8 and 8 or 6 and 9 etc etc ....
OR
do you mean one can only take 50% of what the DAG allows on that line so 4.5 superior legions rounded up or down to 4 or 5.....
I hope it is the ist as its cleaner , and the romans will have some oddly balanced armies at higher AP levels (basically an army top heavy in leaders and superior cavalry, archers, lights)
The first. the restriction is not line by line, it is for the total army. When you have finished designing your army, a maximum of 50% of your total ROMAN MF+HF must be superior (average allies don't count)
Poor balance is more like at low Prestige, if you have to take poor units with a big points total...you can always take an ally, or accept it as the price for fighting at a 20% advantage, you poor thing...

Cheers

This would make it a bit less safe for the Romans to assume that they can ignore the barbarian player's second army once the first is invading. And a withdrawal from Roman territory back to the barbarian's home province shouldn't count against the one move limit for that player given that it effectively takes the army out of play for two years. I think this would make the strategic moves more interesting with out making the barbarian's too coordinated.
Chris
I kinda disagree Chris. Look at last 2 turns, 3 barbarian armies entered the empire. They ALL stayed put the next turn which means you all could have entered with the OTHER 3. Seems a little over whelming unless you want to add a rule that the Romans can launch pre-emptive invasions of the barbarian homelands:)
I think the romans have a fair chance to hunt down and throw out 3 armies, they would have no chance with 6. The strategic surprise will come when you have both armies in homeland, or timing exactly when you move - for example, it is an interesting choice whether, if the Alemanni are defeated, the Huns cross understrength or wait to reach full strength. 2 Alternatives:
1) Adding strategic uncertainty without extra armies in the Empire......keep a max of 3 armies operating in the empire, but allow the barbarians to decide which....but I thought it might be boring for the player with both armies stuck in their homeland while the others romp around....
2) Another alternative, would be to allow more armies, but extend the time they have to stay in homeland post-raids and reduce their reinforcement rate. This may be something to implement later as the barbarians get bolder, but their 'fresh meat' dries up.
btw the Alemanni tried to move to Lutetia, but the Romans were too quick for them....

Point of order here - we, the Alamani, merely sort out the enemy & found him quiet easily![/b]

Are the patch issues resolved yet?

No, but not all games are blocked, TGM has launched games - see the other thread for passwords. I hope they are progressing!

I can't see any challenges in the list from TGM

The 1.5.4 update resolves the patch issues. I ended up issuing a challenge that TGM accepted and you could do the same if you don't see his challenge.

Peter, I just issued another one same psswrd( west1) If you cant see that one either, try to issue one and I should be able to snag it. I think 1.54 has resolved most issues (except for a couple of lists that are fubar)

One assumes (hopefully correctly) that if Us Hairies slip back over the border next turn, we can then slip BACK into Roman lands on ther NEXT turn? The year wait or whatever is just when you've been bribed to go back?

• If your army returns to its homeland, it must stay there for 2 full years before it can raid again

Even if you choose to return, you have to wait before you remobilise your army, as your warriors disperse to their villages, spend their loot unwisely and make future warriors with their wives. However, the Romans don't get extra prestige for forcing you if you return voluntarily. I expect the bribing will only start when the Romans can no longer win their battles. You can bring your other army out to play immediately though!
As with all these rules, may change later as the barbarians become more confident (e.g. don't get whipped each time they cross the border!)
PG, has your battle vs tgm started? I know there have been issues with the Slitherine platform, but if you persist it works eventually.

Sorry but I cannot get FoG working on 1.5.4 & need to stop delaying this campaign.
Please could you find another player as I don't know how long it's going to take me to fix this.
With apologies.

Peter , why dont you request Bates/ Blathergut or Deadtorius( i think Blathy indicated he was interested in leading an army or two on an ad hoc basis) to fight the battle? Hopefully by the time the battle is done you are up and running again, even if not you can still do strategic moves until you get FOg working again.....

I'd be happy to take another crack at the decadent but overly numerous Imperial for you, Peter.

Considering the chronic problems peter has with his PC he might not even be able to access the forums.... Bates already volunteered, the challenge is out there so might as well go that route Or ist come ist serve

(dont be shy , its only a 100AP advantage and i tend to choke when i have an advantage)
