Actually the full proposal is that

Superior & Average break when 50% of their bases are lost

Elite break on 50%+1 base
Poor break on 50%-1 base

This makes 4 base Poor LF BGs very dodgy, which cannot be a bad thing.
Actually, The armored POA is more important than the superior moral.
With this mod, the balance tip in the wrong way IMHO as protected sup Cv are the same point as Armoured Average one.
I play easily with one or another but certainly not with a protected sup who autobreak at 50%!
And a 6 BG of KN with an autobreak at 3 is 69 pts throw away a bit harsh ( and yes I like to play and see an utility to a 6 KN BG)
An even simpler milder rule is to have an additional -1 CT modifier for having lost 50%. So at BG at 50% has -2 on its CT.
May be it's better, but I find it's a sort of an overkill to a side annoyance

Perhaps a simpler/better way of changing this would be to say that any unit reduced to 2 elements (rather than the current 1) is auto broken. This would allow large superior units to maintain their resilience but make all little units inherently brittle. We would perhaps start to see 6 element mounted BG's

What about those that start at 2 and are reduced to 1 base?

Ok "reduced to 2 elements or less"

Personally, I don't believe that changing the break points is the answer.

If the objective is to encourage people away from 4 base BG's, then the answer must be to make it easier for those 4 base BG's to take losses.

At the moment, good quality BG's on a frontage of two are frequently invulnerable to losses because they tend to draw or win combats whilst only taking one or two hits.

Change the death roll to something like: winners or shot at 3+, drawing BG's 4+, losers 5+

This would allow larger units some more resilience, and largely resolve the situation where two BG's of 4 fighting one identically equipped and graded BG of 8 frontally almost invariably win, because the current death roll system works against the larger unit.

Such a change might help undrilled infantry, since there is a chance they can actually kill a Roman, even if they have lost badly.

It might also encourage the use of Steppe cavalry as Cavalry, since they will no longer find themselves disadvantaged by the death roll system when they try and take on their own frontage of LH whilst in a single rank
