Quarter Final 1

Holien
(Roman) Defeats SawyerK (Galatian 280-63 BC) 9% to 41%

I have Never Had a Battlefield Look like This

The Battlefield was un remarkable with some rough ground on the left and right and a large swathe of open grass land. The Quote above from the Enemy general was a remark on how the Romans split their force and the battlefield rotated with Romans on the Left and Romans on the right as the less nimble Galatian force tried to keep pace with the moves of the Romans.

The Galatian cavalry was kept at bay and ultimately defeated by Skirmishers and an Elephant with the help of the weaker Roman Cavalry.

An interesting game and as ever a friendly opponent with quick turns which are always a bonus.

Thank you very much for the game and good luck in the play offs for you.

I fear my next match will not go as well, I wonder who I will be playing?

You might have to hold your horses at the ready for a while Holien. I have let deadlines slide as we wait for the last group match to be completed

Could we proceed anyway, Karvon has told us that his final game is not going to make a difference and he is the only player who could move up so we know the top two positions in the division.

Aetius (Ptolemaic) ties with Karvon (Sarmatian) 42-24

Although harried by the Sarmatians tenaciously, the Ptolemaics didn't stray too far away from their main army, and almost won the battle, if there were more turns they might have been able to hunt down and isolate a few more units to win. GG!

This is the draw for the repechage.

(I don't think repechage is quite the right word actually. I mean this is the knockout draw for 3rd and 4th placed players from the group stage).

tyronec (Gallic) defeats Random (Thracian) 43-7.

When the main lines got into contact the mass of Gallic warbands had the advantage over the lighter Thracians.

Repechage

Kroche (Bithynian) defeated Bodhran Thracian (Getae) 41-10

Bithynian could sit their left on high ground and their right protected by a wood. Thracian's opposed with a centre of warbands supported by heavy weaponed medium infantry and a grouping of cavalry on the left. Initially skirmishers met on the wings as the Thracians probed around the wooded areas, Bithynians had the better of the skirmishes and both sides then started to move their centres forward. The Thracian full cavalry wing made a bold manoeuvre to swing behind their own centre and come round to attack the Bithynian left. As the warbands clashed in the centre and the Bithynian right moved in to support the centre it was all about time. There wasn't many turns left at this point and it was the short time it took for the Bithynian Superior Warbands to break a number of the Thracian Warbands that gave the Bithynian's victory. Had the Thracian warbands lasted a couple more turns then the Thracian cavalry attack, which had started to cause problems, would have fully developed and threatened the Bithynian centre. GG
