Round 1
Morbio (Roman 197-284 AD with Arab 312 BC - 299 AD allies) defeated Sunnyboy (Byzantine 551-578 AD) 60-52
A swift start by the Roman army allowed them to take a small rough hill. This and skirmisher superiority allowed them to take a significant lead. all looked rosy until the byzantine spears engaged, and then a MF broke, which allowed a Byzantine cavalry unit to pursue and flank attack some Roman infantry, which broke... rinse and repeat, which meant the comfortable lead was an 8 point deficit. The Romans clawed it back to 52-52 and then finally a superior legion unit broke a disrupted Limitanei, which broke a fragmented cavalry unit and the battle was won.
My thanks to my opponent for a close game

Round 2
Schweetness101 (Andalusian 756-1049 AD) defeats rexhurley (Indian Hindu North 600-1049 AD) 60 - 56
this was probably the closest game I have ever played. Andalusia attempted a light inf and cav screen to mitigate massed archer fire on their large line of spears and irregulars as they advanced, but Hindu ranged and cav attacks broke it up and exposed the Muslim spears. The Hindu MA, elephant and close fighter line backed up to get in more shots while their lancers went on a wide right flank, and some archers occupied a forest on their near right, stalling the Andalusian advance. Clever maneuvers by the Hindus got their heavies on point to protect the ranged units just as Andalusia was about to close. Andalusia was down quite a bit at first, and then things devolved into a massacre with spears and elephants and lancers and close fighters all jumbled up in a great mass, and a Hindu flank that didn't quite make it in time. Late game rallies kept the scores very close for the last half a dozen turns, and as luck would have it Andalusia came out barely ahead.

try 60 all but for a rally of the Andalusians in the rally phase of his turn as I go to the magical 60, sooo close to a perfect draw. Never mind well played by Schweetness sticking to it to the end

A good start for the Romans during the skirmish phase, which was clawed back and a small lead to Andalusia, then the Romans pulled that back and eventually won a close battle. Respect to the enemy general!

round 2
klayeckles (indo-greek/indian) defeats DanZanzibar (Roman, spanish allies) 41::17
the romans arrived at the battle with no cavalry (chasing booty on a distant flank march perhaps?) but the spanish foot allies were very numerous. despite the lack of mobility they managed to create a very effective defensive shell, that the indos struggled to find a glitch. initially the velites drew first blood, routing a couple indian units. in the afternoon hours the probing indian cav found some gaps and were able to get within the perimeter--but could do no real damage other than forcing the roman reserves to commit. Finally the Greek phalanxs pounced on the legions--strength to strength. Then when some indian archers disrupted the spanish troops, the indian elephants charged. the first scutari that routed caused a chain reaction, and the collapse was almost instantaneous. Well played, and dicey it was until the sudden chain reaction.

Round 2:
edb1815 (Arab North Africa 1000-1160 AD with Byzantine allies) defeated herm (Samnite 355-272 BC with Gallic allies) 61%-55%
A very close game well played by herm. At the beginning the Arab cavalry wing looked to outflank the Samnite line but the Arab infantry was overwhelmed by the masses of charging impact foot. Things looked grim for the Arabs until the cavalry led by cataphracts created a hole and routed some warbands. Then the battle see sawed back and forth and either side could have won in the end. The Arabs having more mobility prevailed in the end.
