Romans used a narrow battlefield well but the lancers managed to hack their way through the auxilia and Roman cavalry on the flanks to encircle the core legionaries. Good game thanks!

The result of the poll regarding a limited trial using larger armies in Season 5 was as follows . . .
24 (38%) in favour of keeping 1200 pt armies
21 (33%) in favour of 1600 pt trial
12 (19%) in favour of 2000 pt trial
7 (11%) would leave if all armies were larger in FOG2DL from Season 6

a bit more suited to the terrain quickly steam rolled into a larger advantage tht the greek tribes couldn't overcome, despite a vicious band of bactrian light cav that roamed the ptolemiac rear causing fear and some routing of less stout hearted of the Egyptian kingdom

The Persian archers were quite grateful for a series of well-placed rough and wooded ridges that crossed the battlefield.

sunnyboy (Urartian 681 -585 BC) beat edb1815 (Achaemenid Persian 545-481 BC), 60 – 44
Both armies began the fight slowly not wanting to give up their sound defensive positions, after a brief lull the Urartian commanders impatience won out and he pressed forward extending his left with the intention of striking at the Persian right. The Persian countered by extending his right whilst pressing a strong attack on his left. As casualties mounted a successful Urartian cavalry charge in the centre proved decisive in the race to 60%, a few late rallies extended the margin in what was a close and hard fought near-run thing!
Well played Eric, an enjoyable and challenging game!
