Div. B
Epicouros (later Serbian) 27/34 beat Stefano1967 (Low Countries) 33/26.
As it didn't seem a good idea to charge headlong into pikemen on a hill, the Serbians went the "attrition by shooting" way, especially as the Low Countries didn't have a lot of missile troops.
This provoked the pikemen to come down from the hill and charge. In this part of the battle, a combination of superiority in numbers and outmaneuvring/shooting by cavalry secured victory, although the last few turns were severely testing the Serbian's resolve!...

I am writing to everyone who still has matches to complete today to see how things are progressing. I am able to give 3 day extensions to the end of 17/12 to allow players time to finish up their matches. Please ask for extra time if you need it. There will be no extensions beyond 17/12 as I want to get the vouchers out to the winners promptly so that they can use them before Xmas if they want to. Thanks.

Div A
Londo (Early Byzantine) 26/42 defeated tullius (Arab Conquest) 40/38
I'm a bit disappointed with Early Byz. I thought they had all the makings of a kick-ass army, including high BPs, lots of armoured and/or superior troops. And, very interestingly, the ability to dismount 6 lancers as superior armoured spearmen. But they ended up with a mediocre win-loss record.
Congrats to Jonathan! And thanks to my opponents and to Pete.

Thanks for posting the score in my last game versus Claymore. Meant to do that on Monday, but it slipped my mind.
Later Serbian is a nice mix of armoured cavalry, armoured spearmen/halberdiers, archers and horse archers. I had been worried that they wouldn't be able to stand up to Western knights, and so it proved versus the Medieval French of Hiddeous, who gave me a full-scale ass-whupping that's left me psychologically traumatised for years to come.
But many of my games were against Irish, Anglo-Irish or Scots, and the Serbs are just right against those peasants. Gallowglaich don't enjoy being the target of charging lancers. And kerns enjoy it even less!
Thanks to Pete for organising another successful season of DL, and to all my opponents.

Div. B
Epicouros (later Macedonian) 12/30 beat Greetings44 (later Carthaginians in Africa) 37/34.
The Carthaginian heavy infantry held a hill, the medium infantry (scutarii) a wood. My Macedonian pikes were on low, level ground some safe distance away. Between the main blocks, a "wait & bait" game developed with skirmishers in the front, and cavalry and some other medium troops on one flank. After the flank battle went rather well for the Macedonians, the Carthaginians sent some reinforcements from the hill, the troops on which had already suffered some missile attrition. That was the moment for the Macedonian phalanx to charge up the hill. In the meantime, some thureophoroi bravely went into the woods on the other flank to occupy the scutarii so they couldn't come to the aid of the heavy troops on the hill in time. It worked out rather well, this time.
Thanks for the game (my last), also to all my other opponents and to Pete for organising the whole thing again.
Cheers!
Jan (Epicouros)

Pool B result
lydianed (English) 39/39 draws with gamercb (French (64/62)
lydianed (French) 46/62 beats gamercb (English) 39/39
Two really good and close games. It was actually much easier to be the French than I first feared. Pressing on one point of the English line caused it to break and allowed the French to get behind the English. Superior numbers allowed the French to constantly bring in fresh troops and wear the English down.
Playing as the English I brought the longbowmen into melee - especially the swordsmen but again, the French numbers meant it was hard to keep pushing the attack. Keeping the bowmen in the woods may have been a better plan.
Colin played very well and the games were very close. The drawn game could easily have been a narrow victory for either of us. Thanks to all the great players I've played along the way.
Cheers, lydianed
