Actually, I remembered playing Nico's Italian mod for Afrika Korps and the Italian units are not as bad as I'd suggested earlier. Early on, the tanks are about as good as anyone else's and even the standard infantry is good defensively while some of the artillery, guns and aircraft are better than many other nations. I think the real problems come about 1942 when they start to face Shermans, churchills and T34s.
I mentioned that a French Allied Corps works OK to Tunisia, though I had added some extra upgrades like Somua S40, S41 and S42, Char B1 ter and so on, so your suggestion for British GC should work quite well. Churchill Crocs would be very handy against entrenched conscripts in thick forest
Even today, Panzer Corps 1 has a lot of potential and could have spawned more (official) content but only with a fatter vanilla e-file. It is a pity really that in PzC 2 it is units galore (save no expense), units that could have been extremely valuable in PzC 1. Or at a minimum, some easy steam process (workshop) to add community units in one's copy of PzC.

I wonder if the Italian tank garbage is fighting on equal terms with the Soviet tanks ? ))) From the KV-1 and KV-2 tanks, even the Germans cried .....

The Italian tanks and self-propelled AT guns perform rather well against surpressed enemy units or just to finish off units with few strength points left.
On the otherhand, while playing as the Germans, i hardly used the capturables; playing as the Italians i use the capturables as much as possible.

Wouldn't it be better to use the vanilla grey German versions of those captured Soviet tanks? I know it is Italy plays GC, but it is quite confusing to see the exact same looking units fighting on both sides. And why would the Italians fight with a red star on their captured tanks?

I think it would be better to have the German ones instead, if you insist on using only vanilla icons. I think it is more plausible that the Italians use captured tanks with the German Balkenkreuz than with the Soviet Красная звезда.

...Or, those relatively few icons could be recolored to the vanilla italian tone using the DCS software, and then adding the white cross insignia, to make them look more like units of their new owner...

The stadard grey icons would do fine as Italian SE units if sticking with standard icons.

Heroes appear in the same scenarios as playing the Grand Campaign as Germany. The heroes do appear in Italian equipment though. For example, super Rudel still appears in Minsk41 scenario.
Untested scenarios: Wyszogrod and Warsaw North of DLC 39, the British branch of DLC 40, the Leningrad branch of DLC 41.
Capturable equipment:
Warsaw North/South: 149mm 149/19
Sedan: Somua S35
Dunkirk: Matilda II
Dijon: Char B1
Reims: Char B1
Metaxas Line: Matilda II
Minsk41: T-34/40
Smolensk: KV-1B
Novgorod: T-34/40
Zolotonosha: T-34/40
Vyazma: KV-1A
Streets of Moscow: KV-1B, T-34/40
Demyansk Pocket: T-34/41
Scenario changes:
DLC 39 and 40 scenarios are based on the vanilla scenarios. The exceptions are the scenario Spoils of War which includes two core joining self-propelled tank destroyers (turn 1) and the scenario Stonne with an extra airfield.
DLC 41 scenarios are based on the GC upgrade project scenarios. The exception is Vyazma with two extra airfields and two auxiliary Italian units.
v0.2 contains all scenarios from DLC 42East and v0.1
Fixes v0.1:
DLC 41: The German AA unit in Demyansk pocket is replaced by an Italian AA unit.
Some capturables in DLC 40 have been changed. All capturables have the German skin.
Untested scenarios: the scenarios following Stalingrad docks for the branch "disobeying orders"
Capturable equipment:
Vitebsk: T-34/41
Vorononezh: KV-1B
Novoanninsky: KV-1C
Kharkov42: T-34/41
Buzinovka Depot: KV-1C,2x SU-122, 2x M4 Sherman
Storming Stalingrad: KV-1C
Ilovlya: KV-1C
Scenario changes:
Some small adjustments here and there, mostly to Romanian forces. Few capturables were changed as well.
DLC 42 scenarios are based on the GC upgrade project scenarios.
Gameplay experience: personally, the hardest scenario i played in DLC 42E was Stalingrad Ruins; without the capturables i would not have made it. The Italian armor is good against infantry still. I was very happy with a marginal victory there.
