I've lost one game against Pantherboy and am losing the second in our mirror matches. But they are less overwhelming at 500 points

I guess that it doesn't matter to me now, as I'm not adjacent to him. Or to Parthia. And that leaves me with three armies with nothing to do. I do notice that you and I are adjacent ... (reaches for order-writing quill)
So what is happening then with conquered provinces that aren't adjacent? You and I should both have pieces of Parthia at this point and Pantherboy should have provinces adjacent to virtually everybody I would assume. If the map is such a big change then maybe the campaign should restart with a complete reset?

Apparently tectonic shift has pulled us apart. We can adjust. We've been dithering with this for long enough and its time to play.

Greetings and Salutations, etc., etc.
I find your proximity offensive. We're at war.
Challenges to issue tonight. I'll PM you when they are up.

petergarnett wrote:Scar should be posting the new map shortly in the other Lost World player guide thread. If you scroll to the right you see a small 5 x 5 grid. In it's boxes you see the number of each player.
The edges of the grid wrap around, e.g. go off the left you come on the right, off the bottom you come onto the top etc.
This means each player/box is adjacent to 8 others (you can go diagonally). Therefore you can only move to one of those 8 and only those 8 can move into your country.
Players were randomly positioned onto the grid with the two new players (we may have a 3rd new one coming) added to the bottom.
Hope this makes sense!
You should now be able to make more meaningful alliances &/wars.
I'm still considering the pros/cons of allowing movement through a country with it's permission but for now assume you cannot do this. Equally we may add choke points, i.e. each player may select one of the 8 adjacent countries and delcare an impassible mountain range! Again I need to fully consider this.
Finally the majority have voted for 500 point armies so I'll figure out the implications of this and amend the rules accordingly.
I'm back Friday afternoon (GMT).
Enjoy the diplomacy guys!
What about territory that is already conquered that isn't adjacent to your base country? Are we assuming that we have armies there and can raise as many more as we want to branch out from there?

For the new grid to work, I imagine captured territory will have to be treated as having been moved to where their current owner resides. I guess this principle would also have to be followed if we are allowed to make war on enemies further afield (ie permission being granted to move through a neighbour's territory) and capture far provinces. So wars involving province captures (or negotiated transfers) would presumably have to involve ever changing geography in our brave new world. Another reason for hoping that at some time in the future we can have a map that shows province boundaries and not just country ones.

A true map would be nice, however since the grid has enough room in it, I dont see why a country colour coded pip could not be placed in a nation that you have captured a piece of territory from.. If you have a pip in said lands , you can launch invasions from that coordinate on the gird to the 8 adjacent lands...

to the lands of Canaan... our good friends the Romans, have declared that you have insulted them. How this insult occurred is irrelevant to us, our high priest has declared that our God finds you unclean and so it is that we have no choice but to declare war on you.... especially since you are upwind and your uncleanliness is obtrusive to our noses. A regular Papyrus of war is on the way see you on the field of battle.

So it has come to this...I saddens me to see how kinsmen is lead by the leash of the Romans.
Jew armies will meet on the battlefield and no quarter will be given. So say I.

I've taken Scar and PeterG's conceptual map and turned it into a true map - it's almost finished - I just need to check all the land won and lost. Hopefully I can post it very soon! Hopefully it will meet everyone's needs!

Here's the map I've created. It has all current zones that have been captured contiguous with the conquering land. What it doesn't yet do is show current invasions.... the problem I have here is that many of these are not with a touching zone. I can look to rearrange the map further, but I'm not sure it is possible. It may be easier to suggest that all current battles that are not in a touching zone be considered friendly battles and omitted from the game... or allow them to continue, but accept that you may get a province not connected - I welcome feedback from Peter and all.
N.B. There are 2 Kimmerikon's (taken from Scar's map), I suspect one is an error. Also, I wasn't sure where New Blathergutria was, so I guessed!

Wow! That is one great piece of cartography! Now my question is, how are we going to use it in terms of who invades who?

Morbio that is awesome

....
Theres only one issue: I think Peter set up the grid with the exact order of nations for a reason (what that is is unknown but he hinted at it...) You have swapped them around a little...
Also, it is likly that current attacks, treaties , treacheries or whatnot might have been made off of the order in Peters grid, as you have pointed out
Could you not just have the nations in the order that Peter set up in the grid? It is true that it will be a little fractured, but I can see advantages and disadvantages if you have a conqured territory that is across the map (due the great cataclism) It gives you a colony , or window for invasions but also you would be vulnerable to possible attacks by additional; 5-6 enemies (ithink that is the geomerty of it?)

Map looks great! I appear to be next to Carthage and Arrakis on both map and grid, so I guess those battles can go forward. I don't appear to be next Hyperboria on the map, but I am next to Parthia. I guess fight will have to wait until we decide which one to use.

I suspect what you say is true and I originally created the map exactly as the grid (and the smart person would've saved that version

), but yes, I can move things around in 30 mins or so if necessary. I guess it's a balance between having all territory contiguous and other factors like alliances and current wars. I'll take feedback from everyone, but ultimately Peter decides. it's no big deal either way. We'll be OK the next time we start an event like this, we'll have it all sorted from the start

Morbio: Thats great work. Its wonderful to have a viable map out of the grid and that my expectations about its limitations are put to rest. I think Peter mentioned that his placement of countries was chosen at random.
Just checked and it was random with the two new countries put at the bottom.
