3/4th Play-Off Result
match 3
Kroche (Viking (Ireland) 900-1049AD w Irish allies) 39% loss
defeats
Random27 (Umayad Arabs 685-750 AD) 61% loss
Battlefield was restricted in width by a body of water on the right, Vikings could deploy within favourable terrain featuring some rough terrain in the centre and woods to either side giving some flank protection. Umayads had lancers on each flank, archers, dismt lancer and Dallaimi in centre centre some spearmen behind their left. As missile troops got in shooting range Vikings began to move line forward, mostly on their left to counter the main body of lancers occupying Umayad right wing. Massed archers in the Umayad centre caused early disruptions as the Vikings started to move main force in centre forward.
Then there was a mass of melees as the infantry clashed. Vikings trying to contain the lancers to stop them charging into Viking flanks. Viking line on their right was broken by a lancer and Dallaimi foot which then turned to threaten the centre.
Vikings broke the deadlock on their left and removed half the lancers there, freeing up some infantry to move to help in the centre.
Game was very close with Umayads gaining advantage by the middle and just the staying power of the Huscarls helped the Viking centre hold together against multiple threats. Score is very generous to Vikings as two routed Huscarls rallied up in the last couple of turns and a fragmented Huscarl had managed to hold firm on more than one occasion. GG

3rd/4th Place Play Off
Stones1985 (Armchair Heroes) scored 58
Sennacherib (Furor Gallico) scored 34.
Under the scoring system I believe that counts as 2-2
Thanks for the game.

Query - recorded as Stones1985 loss 34 - Sennacherib loss 58 - is this correct?

Not sure if this is politically correct or not, but FoG2 has a very Anglo-Saxon/Western European tradition, and I think it's wonderful that a Chinese team has won. Congratulations to all of you.

Congratulations to the Tang team! Even though Pershing's Pikes beat them head-to-head in the initial Group A round, the Tang team improved their game (and had better maps) to beat the Pershing's Pikes team in the finals. Well done!
Perhaps even more importantly, thanks to the organizers for all their work and a well-run tournament!
Harvey, Pershing's Pikes captain

It's great to know that, and I'm very proud of the team and excited for all the great battles in this WTC. I was in charge of the reserve in this tournament and I'm glad I didn't get a chance to play: it shows that my friends did their best and there were no unforeseen circumstances that prevented them from playing.
As angusosborne said, FOG2 or ancient wargames are traditionally not so "Chinese", so I am also very happy that when recruiting WTC teammates, Chinese players actively and enthusiastically participated and finished the tournament, not only Tang, but also Qin and Han players. Thank you all for your enthusiastic participation and support.
I'm sorry I'm still on the train, and I don't really want to write a "sample essay" thanking everyone, so I'll end this quickly and briefly, thanking you to everyone on the forums and to the organisers of the tournament for giving us a stage to show off the art of war. Hopefully the FOG series and other ancient war games will become more popular.
Best,
Wang
Easter egg:As is usually the case with movies promoting Eastern culture, I'm going to stuff a quote from a highbrow ancient Chinese celebrity here:
“阵而后战,兵法之常,运用之妙,存乎一心。”
——— 岳飞,武昌郡开国公,河南北诸路招讨使。
“Formation before engagement, this is what military textbooks always say. How to use it on the battlefield ,that can only depend on your heart.”
———Yue Fei,Duke of Wuchang,Chief Commander of the Expeditionary Forces for Henan and Hebei.

On the road again for Christmas, but if we’re sharing, I just received a book on Xingyi boxing (since I’ve been getting into boxing as my exercise program this year) from my family. Good stuff and a very interesting read.
Congrats to Tang, and I look forward to a rematch next year.

Not for this unfortunately. But SnuggleBunnies has done a YouTube channel for his games in another competition:
