I think that in my scores the error and anomaly that has meant placing me in the first division is clear.

score 57 - 49 = 65 - 49

Thank you to Mark for a very close game.

The Romans were very strong but the phalanxes were deadly and Indian infantry were scattered far and wide, it looked as though the Romans would be victorious but the flanks were exposed and the archers did good work. It remained a seesaw battle but the eles and cav were mobile enough to turn the battle towards the Indians on the flanks and the phalanxes were just too slow to catch them. DirtyMark used phalanx squares to really good effect and this kept his phalanx units in good order when they were isolated pretty much went down to the last turn.

A very tight game indeed between two vastly different armies. It swung back and forth and the Indians just sneaked it at the end.

Thanks for the game.

oscarius (Sea Peoples) defeats BobGanoush (Phoenician): 63 - 39

The terrain in this match proved a mixed bag for both sides. On the one hand my foe had the advantage of modest elevation across a lot of his line but on the other a large stream at the bottom of these slopes made it difficult for my foe to put his heavy chariots to best use. In general owing to the large unit sizes of my list and their impact foot/swordsmen status I had better infantry blocks but my foe had more to spread around.

I brought a fairly shooty line-up (for such a sledgehammer style army list) to try provoke Bob off the hills. After eating a lot of my javelins (I think I inflicted about 1000 casualties before we'd even had our first melee), he did break off some reserves to cross the river and outflank my left, an effort I was lucky to hold back (the old hide a mob in the forest trick came in handy) and defeat.

In the centre the terrain was relatively flat so I decided to concentrate my initial assault here. My frightening warriors performed well against the already worn down Phoenician foot and the river again prevented his chariots (and his sole heavy foot guard unit) from contributing as much as they could have. My foe had the most success on his right where he was starting to make some serious headway with his own assault but by then the points had concluded in my favour.

A difficult game where both sides spent a long time carefully jostling for position and advantage. Well-played!

Thank you Vakarr for explaining that and well done on a comprehensive win, I felt I had some points to get on your left as it was finally breaking down, it would not of changed the result but another 10 or 15 points would of been a good result after that mass route. Well played.
Your army is a difficult combination to control but refusing your centre and attacking on the flanks seems the right way to go. The problem is that elephants are slow moving, so it takes time to get around the flanks. Your archers always have a minus to their morale for having bows and the elephants have a 2 square wide morale check circle when they rout - a combination that makes the army quite brittle. Not sure how many you are allowed, but you need to maximise and concentrate the close fighters. I think you are allowed an artillery unit, and should use it if possible - not for the few casualties that it will cause but for the "shot at by artillery" -1 morale effect. A unit shot at by artillery then charged by an elephant is more likely to fail its test for the charge. Same goes for a unit shot at by the bowmen then by artillery.
