Just a Quick Unit update

The Grant must become a Tiger NOW. 703 PP

The Italian SP Arty should be upgraded as well. The New Unit has more Ammo ! more hitting Power ! 134 PP

The Italian Tanks get their Final Italian Origin upgrade which is about 120 PP as well. It's comparable to a Top of the Line Panzer III

Then there is the Centauro Fighter and it costs 500 PP as it is not in the family.
There was a discussion if its worth the Money (which is twice in your case).

So you have about 1100 PP on the clock for Ground Troops already.

If you upgrade both Veltros to a Centauro then you have 400 Prestige left for Repairs and New Units, which is not a lot and means a New Unit is either another SM 79 Tac Bomber, a SP Arty or a Green AA Gun. Or a Piaggio if you are lucky.

The Arty will be useful right away, the AA not so much and is not very mobile, but can be an Asset later on.
The Tac Bomber or Strat Bomber will be in Grave Danger as they will be Targeted, but can give you the best Bang for the Buck if they can survive the Early Rush here for the Rest of your Quest to India.

Then there is also the Option to keep the Veltros and have 1000 Prestige to work with.

That's definitely a Point to think about.

Yes it certainly does, many surprises but I am pleased with how it turned out, here is the write up and replay will be passed on by Friday.

Starting prestige 2517 after replacements 1951 but after upgrades, new purchase, and Overstrengthening 36.
I bought another Italian 88.
I upgraded the Grant to a Tiger tank, my M15/42 to a P26/40, 3 M40’s to M43’s.

Based on that aux Bruckenpioniere, am at least sending a Sahariana to the South to do some reconnoiter and may use my other Bruckenpioniere to send some sneaky Pete action towards Amarah.
Sending strong Force to push through the center around Baghdad spearheaded by 2 Tigers.
I have a 2nd strong force around Kirkuk to push towards Kemanshah.
Smaller force to play at pushing North around Mosul.

My Precious precious Stormo.
This took me a long time to move past as this was my favorite unit, and losing him was a huge blow to my pride. But I finally returned and finished.
Other attacks were Mobile AA reduced my other Veltro to just 7 Str.
Man this is tough!
The rest of the attacks were just nicks on several units.

I received word that they are in fact going to try to do a flanking maneuver. Hey you can’t have the same idea I had. (Seriously though it is good that I have the Sahariana and aux Bruckenpioniere unit there to thwart their assault)

This just seems impossible for my meek airforce.

P26/40 Ariete hit by T-34/43 -3 each; 76mm pak hit Bruckenpioniere -4 them -1 me; Bridge Engineer hit Sahariana -2 each; the rest were attacks versus aux units or stopped by well defended units.
This seems a lot tougher than Gazala.

Decisive Victory 2 Rounds early with 1826 ending Prestige

Those Forced Surrenders are key to coming out of this one with a nice bank in your pocket, I could have gotten more but I got eager. I also bought a Centauro even if it was not an upgraded one, I still ended up with one. My plan is to keep it in the background and only work on using it to mop up units and try to keep them away from enemy air battles until hopefully I can build up some amount of experience. It may be too late but I felt I had to replace my lost Stormo.

Next will be Caucasus with 3376 in prestige and looking at the map I am very pleased to have a Bruckenpioniere, and I think for my new unit I will probably buy another Alpini to help in my Mountain Maneuvering.

I hope to get the latest playthroughs to Hurly on Friday, and last night I stayed up way too late doing a first try for Dijon on Manstein, I ended up with a Marginal Victory, which I would be happy to stick with and I did save the replay, but I took the needed city for bonus Char B award on the last day, so I need to take it one day earlier so I can get that unit. (I will probably try again tonight)
I may get more time to type up Reims Manstein playthrough.

Except for the sad End of Stormo, this reads like a very impressive and succesful Battle overall.
And this is true even more for a blindthrough. You picked up all the little Surprise Attacks, stopped the Trucks and forced not just one but 2 Churchills into Surrender. Which btw is worth the Upgrade of some lesser Tanks into Tigers.

You bought a fresh Centauro. It will be very interesting to see how the Centauro works out for you and your Evaluation of this Unit

A bit of a rough weekend for this soldier as my 12 year old Daughter had her arm broken on our trampoline and my Mom's Garage caught fire due to my Sister's smoking. So...prayers are appreciated.

Starting prestige 3376 after replacements and upgrades, new purchase, and Overstrengthening 48. (Man I cut pretty deep.)
I bought another Alpini, and I am super glad I did.
I upgraded the both SE Pz3L’s to a Tiger tank, my SE Pz4G to a 4H.

Based on the layout I am super glad I have a Bruckenpioniere as I am putting him at the river junction of Kura and Arras in order to sneak in a force to seize Baku and then to swing up. I am putting 2 StuG3G’s and an SE Tiger on airfields in order to fly where other aux location is on the map. The rest of my forces are being placed to push towards Yerevan and beyond.

Decisive Victory with 711 ending Prestige

This wasn’t too bad. Hurly warned me that they Primary Objectives can be different on this one, but I found my Main Objective change not that difficult to attain. Buying that extra Alpini was a must for a scenario like this.

Next will be Arabia with 2261 in prestige.

I am pleased to report my Centauro has 1 Star of Experience already. I will keep using him in the way I have been trying to build up some kind of decent experience.
I am getting worried I only have 4 more scenarios and I do not have the highest medal for an Italian Unit.
How many kills do I need to achieve that? If 400 I should be all right, but if it is 500 I think I will be screwed.
Does anyone know?

I think its 50 / 300 / 500 for the medals but take don't that as a fact.

I'm not looking for all this "Lametta" Stuff so I'm not keeping track of it.

But in an older savegame all Italian Units with 500+ kills have that 3rd medal while several others over 400 do not.

Yup hurly warned you that Sochi could be hard to seze.

Well when will I ever learn that all these close combat scenarios are no real challenge for you and on the other side I will always struggle with them.

So Memo to myself

If I ever will go into a multiplayer fight with you, it will be on something as flat as flat can be, with no city hexes or anything that forces me to go into close combat. How about an all Air Unit Scenario over the Pacific Ocean ? No Surrenders and no Ground Magic for you, but lots of Stormo meltdowns.

I know what to do, How about your Afrika Korps Air Force from this Blindthrough vs my Afrika Korps Air Force from Team RED ( the one with the 3 FW 190 and Stormo in a Centauro outfit) Sounds good to me

Probably will get my ass whooped still ....

Anyway back to the Afrika Korps

OK now you are done with the Russians and the Yanks its Asia all the way now and the Tommies and their (sometimes NEW) Equipment is the only Army blocking your Path to Glory.

You may have already realized that there is new Equipment available for you.

The HS 129 did not make a lasting impression with me in the Grand Campaigns but here it is worth a thought or 2 even when it's a Green Unit (Air cover is a must though) British Tanks are mostly pretty vulnerable to Tac Bombers (and Fighters) til the Sherman Firefly comes along so the Centauro and your Bombers can rack up some nice Kill Counts still.

How many tanks are not converted to Tigers yet ?

These are the main things I would look for

Get Tigers for all possible German and Captured Tanks Slots
Get FW 190's for all German and Captured Fighter Slots (afaik already accomplished) if possible go with Overstrength
German AT should be upgraded to the New Stuff available esp the One with the switching ability (In Family upgrade so no big Deal)
if Money is still there consider the HS 129 maybe 2 of them

and don't lose your sleep going into a Scenario with a few Core Slots open.
Don't buy and send in Low Quality Stuff anymore (maybe that can work in your favour later in Scenarios when you can fill these these open slots in strategic places)
I went shorthanded on almost any of the last few Scenarios in several Runs. It's not a big deal unless its more than a couple of open Slots. The Allowance will rise with each coming battle now and while saving Prestige for a Tiger 2 upgrade is not a good Idea, spending on the Latest NEW Stuff for the Italians probably is. (Not sure for the BF 109 k Ital edition though it is coming too late and as Green Unit it is too weak to survive and to expensive as an Upgrade for the Veltro or Centauro, but you still have some time for that decision)

Ok so my thoughts are the following.
I am a completionist. (That means I want to finish this playthrough with all achievements)
This means that since Hurly told me that I will need 500 kills to get the greatest Italian Medal I want to upgrade that +3 Att/+3 Def to an HS 129 and Overstrengthen it as much as is possible, I can bring 2 additional units into this next battle, so I want to buy another Sahariana and another M43.

That will use up most of my prestige if not I will try to Overstrengthen my fighters as much as possible.

Starting prestige 1090 after replacements Then I did upgrades, new purchase, and Overstrengthening 1. (I could not cut any deeper.)
I bought another Sahariana, and SP M43 arty.
I upgraded the Ital Rudel to a HS129 so that I can attempt to get that greatest Italian Medal. (I am glad I did, because I think this will work based on break down Hurly gave me.)

Based on the layout, I will be swinging east and swinging west, but be prepared for anything coming through in the middle. I feel having large field of view will help in this battle, so I am glad the developers made Spotting heroes a large part of Afrika Korps.

This was not too tough and was a great chance for units to rack up kills, do not get me wrong I almost lost 3 or 4 units, but I was too aggressive, per usual, and as always it almost cost me, but I only lost 1 newly purchased unit.
So if I was able to play again, I would not have rushed forward so aggressively, but slowly and steadily.
Still feel I am set up to finish strong.

Yes, this is the highest Italian Award and it's only awarded if an unit reaches 500 kills. On Field Marshall difficulty, I only got it for three tactical bombers, all of them with 700+ kills.

Decisive Victory 2 rounds early and with 1597 ending Prestige

This was a lot of fun, I love the way orders change and things happen on the fly in Afrika Korps. It makes each scenario very exciting and quite enjoyable for a Blindthrough. My focus now will be to try beefing up my Italian tank to the new upgradable Panther and another better bomber for my other Italian Tac Bomber to try and garner 500 kills so one of them will be awarded the 3rd medal and I will hopefully still earn the Greatest Italian Achievement, because I do not know why my Italian Rudel was denied the award, it has me worried that I will not be garnered any of my other anticipating Steam Achievements. I did not do anything funny so hopefully that unit just has a bug on it, or something. ;?

Next On the Road to India with 3297, oh and wouldn’t you know it. I am awarded one last SE unit.
A Pz3N, ok well that will become a Tiger.

Day 22-27 finished out destroying remaining units minus the Bishop I could not find and on Day 25 this sneaky 17 pdr came and took Kerman, so I had to purchase 2 Alpini’s and a Cavalry unit to make sure I wiped it out to reseize Kerman on Round 27 for the Decisive Victory.

Ok British India is all I have left to finish this Campaign which I will try to at least start this weekend. With 2418 in final prestige, I see this map is huge and Hurly let me know that getting a Decisive is pretty easy and I want to make sure I keep track of how many Primary Objectives I seize as it will finish as soon as you seize the correct number of Objectives. Based on this I am going to have fun with this last scenario, my only worry is that I only have 1 fighter to guard my vulnerable Bombers, not Cool.

Read the words correctly

hurly told you that it is pretty easy to get a Triumph in terms of Turns allowed and that the last scenario can have a rather anticlimatic end cause you don't need all Victory Hexes (just 10) Also the British HQ is a rather unspectacular Place and one can easily miss destroying it.

So keeping track of how many Victory Hexes you already got and knowing all the time how many are still needed, you can get picky for the last 2 or 3 needed is really helpful and avoids a lot of Stress. (btw getting all hexes and destroying all British Units along the way is a real nail biter (at least for me and I did go for it only once))

But in between nothing will come easy and I'm quite sure you will probably be tempted to use the Name of the Lord in Anger a few times
You will see more and better units of almost anything in this one and as usual they will come at you hard and early on.

So don't fall in the trap of taking this lightly, it is just a matter of grinding them down one by one as they don't bring any new Units in this Battle. Almost like in MP a complete kill is always a good option as they replace the wounded units but a Kill is a Kill and one Bugger less to deal with.

one more hint

you probably are not able to use all core slots right away with quality units. This is not a Problem as your Starting Positions are a bit "slow"" and some interfering will take place early on. Going shorthanded by a few units can be helpful down the road being able to react to certain developments (E.g if the Enemy Airforce is completely destroyed (and that is a big IF) another Level Bomber might be handy or not possible in the Italian Challenge some extra Paras)

You don't need all State of the Art equipment like expensive King Tigers, but sending out Green and Cheap Units early on is a waste of Prestige as well. Keep going with what you have upgrade it In-Family like the Italian Tank to a Panther and you are fine

Last one you are stuck with one Fighter and this might be an interesting Situation.
You can't buy any German Units and all Italian Ones even the naturalized BF 109K might be Cannon Fodder if they go in here as Green Units. So you have to rely on your AA heavily and protecting your Bombers is a real Challenge. On the other Hand Bombers are essential for this Battle so your lonely Fighter Ace will have his hands full in providing Air Cover. And make sure to not lose it early on while engaging in some costly Head to Head battles

I am playing a Rommel Italian only campaign right now to see how I fare. I am at Malta with 660 prestige (after upgrades and strengthening) so so far so good.

I had played the campaign before but not on Rommel, and have not played Italian only on any hard difficulty. I was forced to replay second offensive and Gazala Line when I saw on this AAR that I didn't get the 2 mobile artillery and the Breda bomber on Second Offensive. I went on the offensive and took all objectives and the German units appeared, but the bonus units NEVER showed up on the map. I don't know if the units have a time limit to show up as I took my time destroying the British army and didn't retake the far southwest city til late in the game and my units were already across the map. Gazala was a slugfest on the first run as I ran out of prestige early and was forced to fight at less than half strength for a good half the battle. The second run I had the same strategy but played a bit smarter so the British tanks didn't take big chunks of my armor.

I have not lost a core unit so far and took all the capturables. My SE are a tank, a Me-110, and a Bf109.

Yeah I still think it is Turn 10 that makes the difference in getting these 3, I would call them crucial Units, for the whole Campaign (there is a Reason goose calls the Att+3 Bomber Mini Rudel by now). It's not so much the almost 600 Prestige Point Swing these 3 Units offer it's the Heroes that come with them, a Mov+1 Hero on an Arty (which is ok on a SP Arty) a +5 Att on any Unit and an ATT +3 on a Tac Bomber soon to be upgraded to a SM79 is alway welcome.

So you have to spare a few Units going south immediately then taking El Agheila in time is no Problem.

Time to finish this, I went hard and fast and it shows, last mission, not bringing anything with me so laid it all on the line, not my wisest playing, but I tend to get like this towards the end of a campaign, usually much smarter play earlier on.

Man this was a rough round for Daddy. Rushing in way too fast, but I really, really want to be done. Do you buys get like that, I find my interest wains the further I play into a campaign, as the fun part is over now you are just trying to finish. At least I usually feel this way.

Decisive Victory

Yes! That felt great to get 3 Steam Achievements for finishing this mission, I recommend trying a blind through at a lower level, but if you are reading this you did not try a Blindthrough. I have tried manually setting up an Ultimate Campaign difficulty but it does not set it up correctly so I am just going to concentrate on doing my Guderian and Manstein playthrough’s.

I am actually spending less time in the game as of late because since our Pastor has retired at our church we are going through the long and arduous process of finding a new Pastor, in the meantime the congregation has asked me to conduct the Bible Study, and I have decided to start in Genesis, that is taking up a lot of my time, and is something I am really enjoying.
