Russia doesn't join the war if axis attacks Persia - just stops the oil from Russia

No, that's Iraq. Russia automatically DoWs if the Axis enter Persia. Unless there has been a major and unlisted change for 4.0 [?]

sorry Iraq - unfortunately there is oil in Iraq - I reckon the Axis must be getting short!

The DOW doesn't matter. The Iraq event happens when the Axis enters with a corps sized unit in Iraq. The same with Persia. Then Russia will join the Allies.

so when Axis invaded Iraq (moved in) Russia stops the Oil to Axis and Persia is activated, then if Axis enters Persia Russia is activated

ok we catch a break (albeit one turn to late) and get mud in the UK in November, we also had a partisan last turn which proved very helpful as Max used a BB to bombard it which is handy as we have a SUB close by
we get a brief respite in Iraq as Axis for the oil, unfortunately we have seen an ARM arrive by sea a few turns ago
even better US enters - we have a friend

US is in, but we get our naval wrong, was sure I had sent a DD on that route, ouch as a FTR bumps a SUB
in the UK we ping the BB again, better we know where it is - Norwich won't last long but at least an ARM burns some oil
in Persia we are getting ready to run - just trying to delay as much as we can

a turn of two halves
first the expected assault on Baghdad arrives and we run away! not as cleverly as we could have but we have made so many mistakes what is a few more (I think I have finished a turn 4 times having forgotten to move a partisan into a city or resource hex!)
we lose our Transport as expected

but get a great counter as we sink a SUB with three attacks (weird as our ASW isn't that high) STR/DD and finally the FTR did the last two steps - a bit shocked really, pretty sure I have never seen a FTR do 2 steps to a SUB ever
MAX tells us there are a lot more SUB's waiting in the Atlantic!

the dark days continue as the Axis sets up Persia for the axe when war is declared on Russia - we get a shot at a FTR with our ARM so we sacrifice the ARM to kill the FTR - its a long way for FTR reinforcements!
we bump another SUB, but not where we expect - very south west of the Atlantic - probably looking for sneak transports
weather timing will be critical in the UK - gulp! and we forgot to do our SUB off Norwich!

dark days continue - at least we will get the BB
we prepare for the inevitable as the Axis march on

drat fine weather - we also learn something this turn - doubt there are that many Axis SUB's looks like Max is set for a massive land invasion of Russia
we trap another German BB, kill an Italian 2 step TAC on the Isle of Man and just miss the German STR - no doubt the last victories for quite some time - possible for ever!
we await the hammer in Iraq

somehow my screen shot failed

still Basra held at three steps so won;t fall until next turn other than that there is an impressive array lined up to invade Persia and no doubt the same for Barbarossa

Iraq falls

we bomb some oil and find its garrisoned by a Para, that offers our French TAC a chance to give it a very tiny headache

- it won't be jumping soon, I knew I kept that TAC alive for a reason!
the Axis floods units to England, we nibble a couple but are disappointed we didn't sink the bounced IT transport off London
we have to have a quarter back sneak for some short lived fun

What is the in-game date? I'm really curious about the Eastern Front in this game. One good thing is that you managed to keep North Ireland. Scotland will inevitably fall, but North Ireland is your natural beachhead and a glimmer of hope. Defend it well. You may also consider attacking Ireland in order to get more hexes for units (especially for air units) and more ports.

I am still very short of PP's for the US! so a lot of air is a bit away - the UK worked very hard to slow the Axis which meant Ireland was kept as Max ran out of time
its April 42 so Barbarossa is soon and with it a big assault on Persia - there are quite a few units in Iraq and the Axis should be lower than normal on oil so I am hoping for a very weak Barbarossa air and ARM wise - there will still be plenty of units though as the Axis PP is huge and losses low - I will post a casualties shot next turn

ok so here is the casualties sheet - not pretty reading
we also do some air work in Iraq, primarily to burn oil and kill some steps - we want to get the manpower down asap - they will have built a lots so every step counts
otherwise a very quiet turn ahead of Barbarossa

Axis naval losses appear to be huge.
On the other hand, I have never seen before the British losing 71 infantry units as the stats show. Have they those many units? Or killed Free French units also count as British ones?

Free French units will count as British since France has surrended at that time.
