It appears that the early Royalist armies are deficient in fire strength. Because of this it is necessary that they put their hope for victory in melee.
If you have a timid Royalist player or a bad battle map for their purposes, the game can become grindingly boring.
I have a situation like this going on right now myself.
It really is not much fun when nothing happens for 20 turns. A waste of time imho, as I play this game for fun, as should be obvious to all of my opponents by now.

Something should be changed vis a vis Rules of Engagement perhaps?

I can see your point. However, I saw my fine regiments swept away in an attack against the Roundheads which was probably over optimistic if not foolhardy. If the other side (Royalist) refuses to attack on the grounds that they will be minced, then take the battle to them, the Parliamentarians have the fire power to do this.

With my limited experience, I would say early Royalists (haven't used late much yet) need to maximise on Cavalier use and carry the offensive to the enemy; this is obviously subject to tactical considerations such as terrain.

Having lost North Wales in an embarrassing rout I am pleased to report to the Parliamentarian staff that South Wales held 53/63. A damned close run thing, aided mostly by the Cavaliers leaving the field of battle to loot the baggage train.

I've been thinking about some of the ideas that were discussed earlier in the thread to put some strategic flesh on the bare bones of the CiC/Regions structure. These are rough and ready at the moment (thought through after a very pleasant dinner in Paris where there may have been a couple of drinks

) so please feel free to state whether you think that they are good or bad, could be improved, etc. Please bear in mind that I want to keep this simple to administer, both for me and the CiCs.
Each Moderate/Strong region gives +100 bonus army points and each Fervent region gives +200 bonus army points. The CiC can deploy these extra points to regions in blocks of 100 or 200. If deployed to the region 'supplying' them, they can be deployed from the start of the battle. If deployed to a 'friendly' region, i.e. where the Mood is positive to your faction, they must be used as reinforcements or a flank march. If deployed to a 'hostile' region, they must be used as reinforcements
and they 'cost' double, i.e. a 100 point block would require the CiC to use 200 bonus points.
I think that there should be an implication for scoring if using a larger force than your opponent. My first thought is to increase the points threshold by one step per 100 point advantage, so a win will still always get you a point, with +100 you would need >= 30% for the bonuses to start and with +200 you would need >= 45%.
Something along these lines should add some value to higher regional moods plus give add something to the strategic layer which is (albeit deliberately) rather thin at this stage. On a tangent, looking at Mr. Bodley-Scott here

, would it be possible and/or desirable to have private forums for Royalist and Parliamentarian 'War Rooms' for ease of communication?

Sadly, my powers as forum moderator do not stretch to allowing me to set this up. I suspect that those who do have the power to set access lists for beta forums and suchlike would be unwilling to do this for a single campaign.

In the past there's been no problem having sub forums for specific campaigns. We've had this in some BA campaigns with different forums for Axis and Allies, so I guess it shouldn't be a problem if you ask.

Ah, OK, I will do so then. Any idea which of the Slitherine elves was asked previously?

Don't remember, but Ian and Pip are usually very helpful.

Fair enough. To save me trying to reconstruct it, can keyth please give me list of player user names for each side.

The flank march is decided by the AI, not by the player, so I don´t see how it is going to be used as you suggest, but I like the reinforcements idea

Ah OK, not a feature that I've played with yet - thanks for the info. Reinforcements should work just as well.

How many results are we away from "Late 1642" ie. turn 2?
I'm chomping at the proverbial.

We have seven results in from a total of fourteen matches.

				Another result from the SW.
A timid Royalist commander refused to meet us in battle, but we prevailed nevertheless.
After a morning spent imploring a bloodless victory, this was granted to us.
Shawkhan2 0% for the Parliamentarians v. Turenne 5% for the Royalists
It seems the Royalists are in need of a Prince Rupert to lead the Cavaliers to victory.

It would be nice to have perhaps a weekly update on the Regional status?

The Lord does not approve of interesting games.
