If you go for defensive 1942 Barbarossa, you don't need that much oil. You spend much less because you don't need to move your units as often and you don't do as many attacks as in case of a standard scenario.

I agree, but you need enough to keep air superiority and FTR's still burn a fair bit

With Morris I had 20 FTRs and my oil stockpiles didn't go below 1000. The fun is that for 1942 Barbarossa USSR will have more problems with oil than Axis :-) But yes, currently Hue's oil may be hovering around orange or even worse

Yes, but only if the USSR attacks in 1942.

exactly - a smart Russian won't attack early

Pre-Turn

Nothing happened in England, time to start the turn somewhere else:

Image

... and well: did anyone see something like this before? Again Mud in Central Europe and Sun in Russia :?: !! Also quite funny: Italians near Triest again retreat from Jugoslavian INF.

Image

No movement in sight here...

Image

Additional forces from the Middle East arrive!

And after Turn

Image

At least it Belgrad could be encircled, that should finish the Operation in the next turn, even if a Blizzard is coming to help the defenders!!

Image

Also not much progress here, thanks to the mud. Bud Edinburgh should maybe fall next round too ... Good news from the Bismarck: she killed a 1-step GAR in Ireland on her way home !

Image

Tunis defenders still hold the city ... bad dice here. But wait for next turn !!

Image

Some more torpedoing ...

Image

and losses...

Announcement: Next update will follow on Tuesday next week. I'm on a little holiday over the weekend.

Not much hostile movement, so no Pre-Turn.

After-Turn:

Image

Edinburgh taken, Bismarck goes to Brest harbour.

Image

Bengashi liberated by Italians, rest of troops on the march to Algiers. The MECH near Oran in skirmish with som GARs.

Image

Further Middle East troops arrive...

Image

... so Italians start their offensive against Egypt.

Image

Finally Belgrad! Though mud has cost 1 or 2 turns.

Image

SUB-barrier stops a convoy.

Image

Again After-Turn:

Image

Advancing slow in Scottland

Image

Somehow Morris GAR encircled the MECH but connection was re-established as the GAR was killed, also MALTA-FTR was spotted in a very bad shape!

Image

CV kicking...

Image

Italians on full speed ...

Image

and casualties.

Last turn in 1940...

Image

Heading North in Scottland

Image

CV-kicking in Agadir.

Image

Lots of GARs around Oran. But just a matter of time to get rid of them. And slowly approaching Algiers.
And... Malta-FTR was killed at Constantine. It was still at 2-step ...

Image

Still no enemies in sight, but probably the rest of the 8th Army is waiting behind river Nil or Suez Canal.

Turn 26 | Afrika und Schottland

Image

Slow progress in Scottland. Tirpiz ready and bombing Aberdeen, Bismarck back at 10-step.

Image

The SUB retreats, just as the CV which has moved to Basra (?) does.

Image

Slow encircling of Oran...

Image

Waiting for some Air-power here...

Image

And a convoy run in the SUB-line.

Interesting moves on Morris side, so some Pre-Turn pics:

Image

Morris is moving the almost killed GAR to Ireland.

Image

Malta-GAR is trying to do crazy stuff... Luckily we saw them leaving the port!

and after turn:

Image

Empty Glasgow liberated and going further north!

Image

Malta-GAR found at Rome... Regia Marina is taking care of them, and meanwhile Germans land in Malta!

Oran taken, only Algiers is missing to make Franco happy!

Image

Italian FTR arrives and shows some defenders behind Nil river.

Image

next convoy here...

Turn 28 | Afrika, Mittelmeer und Schottland

Pre-Turn:

Image

Glasgows GAR unloaded in bombing range!

after turn:

Image

GAR killed, Aberdeen under attack!

Image

Bismarck back in the Atlantic & one Convoy sunken! New British BB in Quebec.

Image

On to Algiers!

Image

Malta GAR killed here (a 2-step transporter).

Image

Empty Malta captured.

Image

Italians still wait for some assistance.

Image

and... casualties.

Turn 29

Pre-Turn:

Image

Morris unloads the defenders of Glasgow, in bombing range!

Post-Turn:

Image

GAR destroyed, Aberdeen under Fire!

Image

Bismarck back in the Atlantiks & and a Convoy was sunk! A new british BB spotted at Quebec.

Image

Algier almost encycled!

Image

Malta GAR killed here ...

Image

and Malta itself taken!

Image

Italians still keep waiting here ... we are not sure if they could do a successful attack and prefer waiting for the DAK.

Edit: Thanks for Cybveps grammer advice!

Great stuff, as always. BTW you should write "was sunk", not "was sunken" ;).

Whilst I wouldn't want to go for the Nile, your Italians should be able to pick off Alexandria. Apart from anything else, this will give you a slightly bigger Iraqi rebellion.

Turn 30

Posted: Sat Jun 29, 2013 7:03 pm
by hue
Pre Turn:

Image

Morris tries to get rid of the SUB in the Saint Lawrence River, luckily Bismarck and Holstein are in fighting distance!

Image

Some counterattacks on the Italians here.

Image

And... British leaving the Nile river.

Post-Turn

Image

Aberdeen captured!

Image

Canadian DD surrounded by Kriegsmarine.

Image

Agadir is assumed empty, a German INF will try to capture the city.

Image

Thanks to the TACs Algier could be encircled an fall soon.

Image

Italians start pursuit ... and DAK coming in!

Image

Oil-level still less than at the beginning, but developing nicely!

Very interesting AAR. I am by no means an expert on this game, very much the student. You are teaching me very well. Malta? How many times I have tried. You make it appear easy to do.

It is easy when it's empty ;-)

Somehow I got confused with the turn numbers. This is now Turn 30!

Pre-Turn:

Image

Last defenders of Scottland come in sight. Also an interesting target could be the Polish FTR.

Post turn
Image

One GAR and Polish FTR destroyed (thanks to Shore bombing of the Tirpiz).

Image

Canadian DD which was trapped last turn sunk here.

Image

Alexandria and the Pyramids (west of river Nile!) taken! No resistance worth mentioning. DAK will land in Egypt next turn.

Image

British MECH killed, Algier should fall next turn.

Image

Situation in the Balkans...

@durk and Kragdob: Yes, Malta was empty that made it easy. Morris was trying a sneak attack on Rome with the Malta GAR ... if that would have worked, it would have changed the game completely!

Turn 31 | April '41

Posted: Mon Jul 01, 2013 11:15 am
by hue
Pre-Turn:

Image

A remaining homefleet DD which was hiding somewere in the North-Atlantik runs into a German SUB. Next victim for Bismarck and Holstein.

Image

Although Alexandria is in Axis hands since last turn, the smallest ever seen Iraky rebellion happens... :/ This will not trouble British forces at all. Unfortunately not even the FTR was hit when attacked by Iraky rebells!

Post Turn

Image

British Bomber on Stornoway was killed as Morris neither repaired nor moved it. Luckly again the Tirpiz was around to finish the counter of after German FTR left it at 1 step. Also one of the defenders of Scottish far north was killed.

Image

And next DD sunk here !!

Image

As promised: Algier liberated, Franco will join at the end of the turn!

Image

DAK arrived on Afrikan soil while Italians move further towards East.

Image

Franco joins and British moral starts to drop.
