I've pre order it. Still didn't tested it yet.

MechWarrior Online aiming for 12v12
...
If MechWarrior Online isn't up for 12v12, technical director Matt Craig explained in the Q&A, Piranha will knock it down to 8v8--two 'lances' of four mechs per team. Fingers crossed for large-scale mechanised mayhem, everyone.
...
Piranha is also looking into the possibility of imbalance in faction membership. Lead designer Paul Inouye explains, "Certain incentives can be provided to join a specific House and there can be kickbacks in terms of lower operating costs if you are in a less populated House. We are still addressing this issue and will let you know in a future update as to our conclusion."

My only problem with "free online" is that they easily turn into "pay to win".

Sure, most of the time free to play turns into something called micropayment.....but I´ll keep an eye on it...between my PC campaigns

No payment at all related to game play? That typically means that either the product is complete crap, or they will be billing down the road.
It looks like they put some pretty good effort into the product, so I doubt it is crap.
That just leaves bill, bill, bill.

Better X-COM?
Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced
...
"Unlike 2K Marin's previously announced XCOM shooter, which sparked tempers among longtime fans for turning its back on the series' cerebral roots, this title is a full-on strategy game that puts players in command of a global anti-alien defense force," Game Informer said.

Yes, I've read yesterday their intent a new real X-Com.
But I'm not so positive after reading this:
US magazine Game Informer revealed Enemy Unknown, saying it "introduces a wider console audience to what made the storied franchise great in the first place". It launches on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this autumn.
Let us wait and see.

For those who enjoyed, like I did, to play Elite, there was released in Steam today,
Evochron Mercenary.
I've been playing it, occasionally, for more than a year it really makes me remember Elite.
It will be interesting to note that this series are entirely developed by one person... and in Dark Basic.
Also I saw today in Steam the trailer of the remake of
Dear Esther, a cult mod of HL2.
It looks amazingly good.

Yes, but AFAIK you can stop anytime and preplan several moves ahead, including the coordination of several mercs to act as a team
So there's some hope
