I now a while ago Matrix redid Tiller's old Campagine series. Is there any talk of Slitherine haveing a hand in these games?

Actually it seems to be running better in Windows 8 than in Windows 7, and without the need of extra tweaks.
Been holding off on Win8...but that is good to hear, I can still play it going forward.

Panzer General and Steel Panthers were/are my absolute favorites and remained unbeaten for years, till Panzer Corps came along.

I wish Steel Panthers would have a similarly great remake!
This game was released in 1995! And people still play and mod it. This game inspired people who were just gamers to become "wargamers".

I am quite confused who owns what, Matrix, SPCamo, Shrapnel games... erm.

As I read in some early responses in the thread The Lordz and Slitherine are already busy enough with other projects.
So just let me say, if you have some more time and think about a new project... something like Steel Panthers with a similar graphics style as Panzer Corps would be a cool thing.

A quick unofficial but informed reply would be something like this.

No one 'owns' the code per se in that the deal is you can't sell it. Or in other words, the real owners are ok sharing it, but refuse to give or sell the 'rights'. Any modifications are also legally required to be free. Now, Matrix Games owns the software used to make the Mega Campaigns and that is what is being sold with The Generals Edition. The included free base game is free, it is merely along for the ride when you buy the Mega Campaigns. The same is true with SP Camo's versions. You are buying some software meant to permit resoultions additions. The base game is just along for the ride. It's clever thinking when you look at it.

SPWaW is based off Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat code. SP Camo used the code from Steel Panthers 2 Modern Combat for their two versions which is why they play differently. SP Camo and the Matrix Games fellows once were one, but differing priorties and preferences blah blah blah it happens all the time eh. Shrapnel is a publisher they are a means for devopers to market just the same as Slitherine Group is the merging of Slitherine and Matrix Games both are publishers, not developers. It's an important distinction.

It's why you can say you bought something like Panzer Corps from Slitherine, but really, you bought it from Lordz who are published through Slitherine Group.

And as I understand it, the chap who started the ball rolling for Panzer Corps, was basically someone that was hard core into making Panzer General function. But it is nice he went and made Panzer Corps, and let Panzer General retire.

That is what I see as being needed. We need to retire Steel Panthers, let the code go off to the seniors home, and build a new game, which just happens to look exactly like Steel Panthers. Well to us at least. I have no need for the code to be at all similar. I don't know programming, and I am not planning to learn it :)

I played the HELL out of SS. I prefer Blitzkrieg though. And not that crappy BK2 stuff. The original.

Ha ha!

You can not beat BK for multi player. Mad many custom maps. Lots of fun!

Good luck on that, can't picture playing something real time, and something less than Close Combat design or something from Panther Games worth my cash.

I'd like to see them turn Panzer Corp into a World War game with no links, big world map starting with the invasion of Poland in "39". Turn base of course no Real Time. You would have to start with a large corp but you would build from there. Could they do it HUGE.

Hmmm uhh hmm ahh NO! hehe :)

Sometimes it is just better to not try and make an operational scope game think it is capable of going fully global grand strategy.

You might want to try and ask them to morph Commander Europe at War into a global game, the design is likely better suited.

After countless hours with SPMBT and WW2, I had to stop. Problem for me was the micromanagement and time commitment involved. Just playing through a turn with every squad shooting multiple times, really took a while.

DSW, I can dream. BIG. Just think of the size you would have to make this game and the map. I played board games most of my life and I did some crazy things with them, I took ten game of Fuedel and laid them out on a pool table, all six armies with castles and proper movement. I used the boards from squad leader and played Terrible Swift Sword, Bloody April, and there were a couple of other regimental game along the lines, set up was to bring each side from one end and just fight using TSS rules to get you units off the other end at a hex. I had 12 of the old Yaquinto Close Combat games, 12 Battle and Leader's games (Yaquinto), I used the pieces from 8 Napeoleons Battles to make a huge Waterloo Game. You should have seen what I did with Axis and Allies I used counters from from all the squad leader games, combat, defence, and moral were used as the ratings. Sorry spelling not my best suit???

Same exact thing here.

I think there might have been better ways for the game to handle it.

I, for one, am a fan of '1 movement, 1 attack' per turn- ala Battle Academy and Panzer Corps. I never understood how units were able to engage 4 and 5 times in one turn in SPMBT.

The turns took FOREVER. Then you had op-fire. ahhhhhh. If it was a cinematic game with a nice engine, i could at least grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.

Were or are there any good turn base man to man combat games out there? I've got a couple on my ipad but they are kind of lame. It's and infantry and Tank game. Battle WW2 also is interesting haven't played much since I got Battle Academy, still haveing a little trouble with it but it's my problem not the game, scrolling on my iPad. Now that I have Panzer Corp I play nothing else.

The search continues for a TACTICAL turn based game.
