is it my imagination - or are numbers looking a bit on the low side?

Overall FoG numbers are about the same as last year but there are four periods not 3 this year.

There are also a few more FoG:R players this year than last so the overall FoG entry is probably very slightly up.

FoW is also about the same.

I think that some of the other periods are down slightly but last year was the best attended Manchester Britcon ever.

also not seeded

are the two linked?
Blame the furriners for you not being seeded Paul....

Seeding is done on the UK rankings and then we slot in furriners as seems fit.

I didn't think Shaun Drummond was a common criminal. I thought he was a Kiwi.

On overseas players, Shaun D deserves a big pat on the back for travelling from the Antipodes. If the seeding work, him vs Graham will show the relative strength of sheep botherers vs UK. Also Oliver D vs Pete will be an interesting test of the relative merits of different nations.

IIRC that games was played at Athens. Shaun was narrowly beaten 13-7.

Shaun played at Britcon last year and IIRC placed 13th in the later period.

It is indeed really good to see so many overseas players.

I think that Shaun should be listed as a New Zealander but for some reason he was shown as an Aussie on the entry list :O

He does indeed come from the land of the chokers - JD and Hammy were informed, however ...

I think Briggsy played Shaun as well - so he should have his eye in regarding Brits by now :)

Did he? I know Shipman played him and won 13-7 as well.

Shaun's record vs Brits

Britcon 09
24-1 vs Richard Young
17-3 vs Terry Shaw
3-17 vs Graham Briggs
1-24 vs Julián Lopez (there is a strong argument that Julian is actually Spanish)
24-1 vs Andy Kitcher
13-7 vs Keith Martin-Smith

IWC 10
7-13 vs Terry Shaw
7-13 vs Graham Evans with
2-23 vs Dave Ruddock with Bosporan
10-10 vs Keith Martin-Smith

Ignoring the game against Julian that would put Shaun on 2 wins, 2 winning draws, 1 draw, 3 losing draws and 1 defeat against Brits.

So, to put another way about a 50/50 record against Brits.

I think the fact that at Athens Shaun didn't win a single game against British opponents is an excellent argument towards making him number two seed.

It could be seen as pandering to the furriners, it could be because Shaun is rated very highly on the FoG rankings site, it could be that he has won a lot of tournaments in the last few months or it could just be me stiring things up

I seem to remember from discussion with Shaun that he is one of those Kiwis who works in Australia thus increasing the average IQ of both countries.

Despite that horrific background, he's a decent chap. His performance in Athens was not helped by illness.
