Well, i only say it because as batesmotel say not allways you can have internet conection for example i start play PBEM sending the files in the university not in my house and of course, the actual system depends of Slitherine healt and have problems with versions... i never have these problems in all games i play, if you have a game and you play it special when you do it against humans usually you search for updates, custom scens and mods for the game.
PD: after my first games i only can wait for more expansions, are very interesting books for me

Excellent news. One question - can I use my 25% discount when I pre-order?

I think they expired but if not then yes.

You said that Matrix will offer this several weeks after you release it. Will they offer a discount, or will it be full price? If no discount, it makes sense to pre-order from Slitherine! Again depending on what the Matrix price will be.
What is the full price in USD on the Slitherine site? I know that it shows up as $19.99 with the pre-order discount!!!

When it comes out depends on their work load. We give them the final files when they are ready and they tend to wait a few days to make sure nothing is broken and then start building it so it is usually a few weeks. We're giving 20% off so I guess that makes it $24.99 without the discount. The discount is only for pre-order and I dont think Matrix do pre-orders.

Thanks for the info. And I think that you stated somewhere that the Expansion will work on the Matrix Version? Also, would the Expansion purchased from Slitherine work with any "Future" patches from Martix?

iainmcneil wrote:Generally what we will be doing is patching the core game with all the new features and the expansions will allow you to use the armies in them. This way even if you only have one expansion you'll be able tio play others with different expansions as your code base willbe teh same. There may be specific features limited to certain army packs but I'm not sure what they woudl be at this stage.
Does that mean that all of the features in the expansion, except for new armies and scenarios, will be available as a patch to people who have only bought the basic game ?

I'm really looking forward to the new expansion and have loads of questions concerning it, not sure if they can be answered but if you don't ask you don't get as they say

.
Army Lists - What kind of points values will they cater for and will a year have to be stipulated for the army? Will certain troops have date restrictions for when they can be used? Will the special campaign options be available?
Map/Terrain - Will this be player driven, randomly generated or influenced by the armies used? Some armies like Ancient Spanish are going to want a lot of terrain to compete with heavier opponents I'd guess.
Deployment - What will be the restrictions on where troops can be setup, will light troops have more scope than heavies in this?
Ambushes - How will these work, will the number of units allowed to setup in ambush be restricted, where on the map will ambushes be allowed? Or have i got the wrong end of the stick and ambushes will be a part of the new line of sight feature?
Ally Generals - How will these work in the PC game? Will they only interact with allied troops, will they be cheaper than normal generals?
Flank Marches - Are these going to be possible in the PC game in future patches / expansions?
cheers
Matt

Yes generally all features will be available in a patch to keep all players synched up in terms of rules etc.

You'll be able to set any size of army you like. What special campaign options do you mean?
andersm73 wrote:Map/Terrain - Will this be player driven, randomly generated or influenced by the armies used? Some armies like Ancient Spanish are going to want a lot of terrain to compete with heavier opponents I'd guess.
Influenced by the army but randomly geenrated. E.g. if teh defender is steppes, it will be a steppes style terrain.
andersm73 wrote:Deployment - What will be the restrictions on where troops can be setup, will light troops have more scope than heavies in this?
TBD but to keep it simple probably one deploy zone for all units.
andersm73 wrote:Ambushes - How will these work, will the number of units allowed to setup in ambush be restricted, where on the map will ambushes be allowed? Or have i got the wrong end of the stick and ambushes will be a part of the new line of sight feature?
They will be inherrent to the LOS system - any unit youc an't see is effectively in ambush.
andersm73 wrote:Ally Generals - How will these work in the PC game? Will they only interact with allied troops, will they be cheaper than normal generals?
Same as in the TT game, they only effect their allies and are cheaper.
andersm73 wrote:Flank Marches - Are these going to be possible in the PC game in future patches / expansions?
Not in Rise Rome. No plans to add them at this stage for the future either.

Hi Iain, many thanks for the reply, it sounds great. The special campaigns are available to some army lists, e:g Hannibal in mainland Italy 216BC - 203BC gives the Later Carthaginians access to Veteran Spearmen, Drilled Gallic Foot and Campanian Roman style foot.
cheers

In general all options in the lists willbe in the army books, but there are a few exceptions.
Bring on the Illyrians

by batesmotel
As a thought, I would rather see the Illyrians included in the initial release re-using some existing images (or slightly modified versions of existing ones if that is easy to do) rather than waiting for the perfect figures to use for the images. Updated images could presumably be included with a patch at a later date if better figures do become available. This seems to make more sense than relegating the Illyrians to some other update where they would be out of place.
For what it's worth, I suspect that much of the reason for the lack of good Illyrian figures represents the fact that there isn't much known about the appearance of Illyrians. But they do seem to have been a significant player in the period as opponents for the Romans, Macedonians, etc.

So let me get this straight. I bought the game from Matrix and Slitherine patch 1.03 works fine. If I buy the Rise of Rome expansion pre-order, directly from Slitherine, then it should work fine on my Matrix edition. Is this correct?
Also, just to ease my curiosity, are the Slitherine and Matrix versions of Field of Glory identical? I realize that the Matrix version has the Matrix logo and is installed to my Matrix Games folder, but other than that are they identical?

Well, two things, one, is the expansion 100% compatible with matrix version??? and two, when you buy your army in a point battle you can select the quality level with a cost of course.

by IainMcNeil
Yes it will be compatible. The Matrix logos are on their launcher program before you are in the game. The game files themselves are 100% identical.
I'm not sure if you could add Matrix updates to the Slitherine version, as this depends how they set up their installer but you can deinfitely add Slitherine updates to a Matrix version.
The army builder is much like the army books for the tabletop. The types of troops you can have depends on what they used historically. You cannot have Elite troops if they did not have them. Sometimes you will have quality choices to make, sometimes not. Sometimes you have weapon choices etc. It is case by case for each army. The Roman armies tend to have the most options as they covered such a large area, fought so many battles and used a large variety allies.

Ok i see, add slitherine in matrix all ok, i ask because want know if after buy 1st expansion here if i want buy next expansion in matrixgames not problems (any little clue for the new expansion??? hehehe).
I never play the tabletop series and dont know what exactry works when you buy an army, i like that armies can buy troops that they use (i think in persian greek mercenaries) with in some cases choices in armament and quality.
Cant wait to have the expansion, i see the in the game a great tournament future.

Awesome - One Question

This is awesome - I will be ordering this update and all future updates so pour them on.
My question I have is how will multiplayer work now? Specifically, when you go to choose a battle online, how do you know the size of the army you will be able to play? Will you already have to have an army made and saved somewhere or can you choose the battle and the make a quick army up to the posted limit? Thanks

Several questions:
1. How does this affect the proposed Mac version?
2. What is the "Matrix" version, and how does THIS affect the Mac version?
3. For those of us that bought it and got it partially working via VM, will we be able to exchange this license for a Mac license, or use the same license key?
Thanks. All the new features look like exactly what is needed.
