Aetius (Greco-Bactrian) defeats deeter (Carthaginians) 52-27

Tough game where those African veterans tore anything I sent at them apart; I had to hit the softer targets and break through at places, but my opponent was stubborn in giving ground. GG!

Quarterfinals

Janohito playing as Gauls defeated Dreaddradish playing as Greeks. Final score 64-43.

This time battlefield was completely flat with only a small patches of rough ground scattered around that didn't play an important role in the battle.

Both army lists being quite inflexible looked just like you would expect - pikeman and thureophoroi with a few lancer cavalry on Greek side and just a mass of warbands covered by noble cavalry on the flanks for Gauls. Greeks deployed in an interesting checkboard pattern while gallic troops preferred a single line with a few reserve troops behind and skirmishers a bit ahead of the main line.

Armies simply moved forward to each other with Greeks using their cavalry to cover left flank, leaving right one exposed to Gallic noble cavalry force. That was a deciding factor for Greek right flank which crumbled after getting flanked and under warband charges. Center also started to waver. But Greeks had potential to turn it around on the left flank where after blocking Gallic cavalry, Greeks used their numerical superiority to threaten flanking attacks. At one point Gauls were just a turn away from victory - score showed +25% for them, but Greek resolve allowed them to rally and keep fighting.

Battle became a stalemate for a few turns since after destroying each others side right flank, both sides redeployed and prepared for a final battle. Unfortunately for Greeks, their pikeman were battered by previous battles and just couldn't withstand renewed charges of the warbands. In the end, Greek forces collapsed in the center, granting Gallic troops their victory.

That's our first semi-final set: tyronec with Thracian (Triballi) vs Janohito with Gauls. Congratulations on your progress so far.

Holien defeats mberisso Romans 22% vs Galatian 48%

A wide open map with a few small patches of rough ground and woods in the corners.

The Galatian force deployed a big wing of Cavalry on their left flank and a long line of warbands joined them on the right with a few skirmishers. The Romans had their Triari on the left and these had to move over to the right to help defeat the Cavalry threat. The Romans sent a few cavalry to the left to help delay and split up the warband mass and give time for the right flank Cavalry threat to be defeated. With the Cavalry threat defeated the Romans rolled up the flanks of the warbands and slowly gave ground on their left flank which was anchored on some rough ground to help further delay the Galatian warbands.

Thanks for the game.

Aetius (Greco-Bactrians) defeats angusosborne (Syracusan) 55-25

The map had a dip in the middle, with higher ground on each side. The Greco-Bactrians tried to outflank the left side, which was successful, although some unforseen mistakes/hits by the Syracusans blunted that a bit. Eventually the Greco-Bactrians ground out a hard fought victory from a tough opponent. GG!
