Categories or Rankings of "Retreat":
Just my own personal flawed input!... but without personal first-hand experience... i can still visualize what a 'Retreat' may encompass.

First... there should be various 'Categories' of 'Retreat'... from 'Orderly' to 'Disorderly' to 'Complete Panicked Rout'.

As well!, within those 'Categories'... various levels of disorganization and disruption [Meaning that recovery/reconstitution of the Force,,, should take longer... not be instantaneous!] ... will be taking place,,, which could include something like 'Abandoning Military Equipment'... or even including the rate or speed [Fast or Slow] of the retreating action... and so-on... with other likewise relevant contingencies. A result from a 'Panicked-Disorganized-Hasty-Retreat',,, could also cause the ''Unit' to dissolve to some degree,

Take that from what is already happening in 'Ukraine' today at the present!... that in itself says a-lot!.

An additional option that might be interesting, either as a general trait or adv option, would be limiting replacements to +1 or +2 per turn per unit (maybe just for elite replacements) instead of half strength max
