Remember after round 2 the combined scores of the 1st and 2nd round will be added and the 2 lowest scoring teams will, ahem, be obliterated.^^ Round 2 will be posted later tonight and I will pm you when it's up. Teams will be randomized, except there will be a re-roll if the 2 same teams from round 1 end up together.

ROUND 2 - Crassus' putting down the 3rd Servile War (defeating Spartacus)

Crassus is rich and powerful, but desires more: military victory. He's sick of hearing about Pompey's great victories in the East and Caesar's amazing new salad. Then, a perfect opportunity comes about. A slave named Spatacus is leading a rebellion against Rome, and defeated several armies sent against them. Crassus will crush this revolt, and see his name spoken as highly as his main competitors. This should be easy, I mean, they're only slaves, right?

Armies: Rome 105-25 BC vs Slave Revolt 73-71

Team 3 vs. Team 6
GeneralKostas (Romans) vs. Karvon (Slave Revolt)
SawyerK (Romans) vs. Warg1 (Slave Revolt)

Team 5 vs. Team 7
Giacofa93 (Romans) vs. Stew101 (Slave Revolt)
Blagrot (Romans) vs. tyronec (Slave Revolt)

Team 1 vs. Team 2
Kronenblatt (Romans) vs. Ironclad (Slave Revolt)
deeter (Romans) vs. TomoeGozen (Slave Revolt)

Team 4 vs. Team 8
MarcoCato75 (Romans) vs. carpenkm (Slave Revolt)
Aetius (Romans) vs. snooky51(Slave Revolt)

The above teams are fighting each other Round 2. Please talk to your partner and decide which army each of you will take, and then pm me your choice. Only 1 person from the team has to pm me. As soon as both teams matched against each other send me their choices, I will post them and you can start the battle!

When ready to play, the player using the Slave Revolt army sets up the game:

Large/Wide (1600)
Map is EITHER Mediterranean agriculture or Mediterranean hill (Slave army chooses when setting the map up)
Open battle
No allies for either side.
There is no re-rolling of the map.

Please post your challenges here so I can make sure everything is going smoothly.

*****Winners always post the battle results and points like this please:

Kronenblatt defeats Aetius39 45-17
Kronenblatt 60 + 28 = 88 total points
Aetius = 17 total points

Challenge for MarcoCato75 set up. Password "onlyone"

When a free man dies, he loses the pleasure of life. A slave loses his pain. Death is the only freedom a slave knows. That's why he's not afraid of it. That's why we'll win! - good luck.

And unfortunately that ain't it.

Deeter (Roman thugs) defeats TomoeGozen (freedom-fighting slaves) 41-2. Despite a gallant attack, it was like clubbing baby seals during an arctic spring. No one was Spartacus.

Karvon (Slave Revolt) defeated GeneralKostas (Romans) 40-7

We chose to fight the Romans in the hills and found a rather favorable field to face our former masters. On our left, a pair of steep hills, one on our baseline and the other just short of the center, looked down on lower slopes well broken up by patches of rough ground. From the our left corner to the latter hill, a rather large forest masked off our left and provided cover and concealment below the hill. Beyond that hill, lay more scattered rough and patches of woods. On our right a low hill sprinkled with a bit of rough and a few trees provided a modest defensive position. More woods fell in our right corner blocking off that flank.

Our plan was pretty simple; we would mass almost our whole force on our left and hide a token force on our right. We would have a pretty strong position to defend on the left should the Romans attempt an aggressive approach and we had a fairly good avenue of advance through broken ground for an overloaded assault on their right, if the Romans deployed more towards the open ground on their left.

The Romans deployed a handful of mixed medium foot on their right opposite the central hill and rough ground screened by a few light foot. The legion was massed in the middle facing the more open ground with cavalry covering their left. A lone elephant stood between the legion and the auxiliaries.

We immediately set our light foot out to sweep ahead on our left, sticking to rough ground where feasible. Masses of slaves swarmed behind them in support. I threw out a few slaves to secure broken ground forming a chain along the right flank of my advance towards and over the central hill. My token cavalry demonstrated on the right to draw off his cavalry. The slaves were not very disciplined so shifting left took me more time than I originally planned. I initially kept my right wing hidden hoping to stir alarm and possibly come in on flanks or rears if the legion got bogged down driving my defenders out of the broken ground.

The Romans boldly advanced their mediums and lights supported by the elephant into the path of my oncoming hordes on their right. A sharp short skirmish between our lights ended with most of his fleeing, thanks to my superior numbers and closer support of my slaves. My lights began to envelop his mediums and shoot at his elephant. He charged to drive them off, which spread out his force a little too much. Our skirmishers wore him down a little, disordering a couple of units. Our following slaves came to grip with these and ground them down. The elephant chased lights and then tried to overrun one of our slave pickets in the rough near the base of our central hill resulting in a slow fight. Our skirmishers moved on into a marsh behind the medium foot battle and began harassing legionaries, some of whom had turned to face the growing threat on their right. The Roman light and heavy cavalry danced around on our right, but we had safely shifted our horse thru the massed slaves and our slave pickets in the rough or on higher ground deterred them from pressing to hard. The legion began to wheel right to provide support to their surviving auxiliaries, so we pushed our right wing force out of hiding and began picking our way through rough ground and patches of trees on our right. He responded to this force by breaking off several legionaries from his main line and wheeling to face my advance.

We flanked and broke the last of his mediums and our slaves dressed their lines in the rough to face the legion. A large block of slaves swung around the marsh held by our light to threaten the end of the legion's line. We pushed some slaves off the central hill and flanked the embattled elephant. It finally broke in the following hour and that pushed the Romans over the edge and the legions retired to the safety of their camp.

We are Spartacus!

The battle
Team 3 60 + (40-7) = 60 + 33 = 93
Team 6 = 7

This round
93 + 31 = 124 for Team 3
100 + 7 = 107 for Team 6

Team 5 vs. Team 7

Giacofa93 (Romans) defeats Stew101 (Slave revolt) 45 - 14

Team 5: 60 + (45-14) = 91
Team 7: 14

See deeter's post above. In spite of a honorable struggle, the slave line could do nothing to avoid an early roman breakthrough.
